Happy New Year! It’s been a minute but I’m baaaack!
I love the energy that a new year brings. Everyone is truly dedicated to making positive changes, whether health-related, and/or dietary, or career, or other personal goals. Whatever it is, they are paving the path for how they want the year ahead to proceed.
Over the years, I’ve seen fewer people committing to making resolutions – myself included – but rather committing to making behavioral transformations. And to set the stage for these transformations, folks often start with a word of the year. Since 2017, I’ve been selecting a word at the top of every year to help guide and define my year. To help refine my focus for the next 365 days. But this year, I couldn’t land on just one word for the year. There are two that have been lingering in my mind. And no, they’re not the two words on my shirt! Read on to see my two words for 2024:
Word of the year #1: Focused
When I think about how my life has transformed over the past decade or so, I am impressed and highly satisfied. However, I don’t rest on my laurels for long, and I still have so much I want to achieve; so much that God has destined for me, and I want to fulfill His purpose for my life. I am bubbling with creative concepts and know what I want to achieve by the end of this year. I also want to grow my existing businesses. Achieving all of that requires focus. It requires me to be focused. In our current world, the same things that make our lives easier and more entertaining can also draw your attention away from things that require focus. So my first word of the year is the primary thing I’m requiring for myself – to become more focused and remain focused on my short-term and long-term goals, dreams, and plans.
Word of the year #2: Fearless
They say when you reach a certain age and stage in life, you become more fearless in every area of life. And it’s evident in my life. There was a time when I let fear drive my decisions. But over the years I’ve said so long to fear, for the most part, and have done things/want to do things that people call me crazy or brave for, (like laying/playing with wild tigers, wanting to swim with sharks, hiking an active volcano, solo travel, performing standup comedy, to name a few). “Fearless” isn’t a word that only applies to the wild things in life, but also in taking everyday risks, and making decisions that enable you to choose the best for yourself, no matter what. I’m committed to living my best life, and that means removing the fear of the unknown, standing in faith, marching on the path to greatness, and fulfilling my purpose and desired achievements.
So to recap – this year I plan to be super focused and utterly fearless. I’m excited and looking forward to seeing what that yields in my life by year’s end!
