Mondays. It’s a word most people look at with dread. You wanna stop someone’s weekend fun? Just tell them Monday is soon approaching. You’ll most likely get an “Ugh” in response. It means the weekend has come to an end, the party’s over, and it’s time to get back to work. I’m guilty of disliking Mondays. But the word Monday doesn’t have to be synonymous with terrible feelings. It’s all in how you look at it – glass half full, right? Monday can be the fresh start to every new week. It can be the day you get one step closer to your dreams. Or, it can just be another day of the week.
Here are four ways to tackle Mondays like a boss:
1. Develop a positive outlook
We can’t control anything but our own minds, so why not look at things in a positive light? Instead of forever dreading Mondays – ugh – why not look at it as an opportunity for a refresh and reset? Train your mind to think positive thoughts, even about that start of the week we’ve all been taught to think is so dreadful. Instead, think of it as a new beginning.
2. Get a good night’s sleep!
Even though Sundays are supposed to be the day of rest, many of us spend the day running errands, catching up on work, paying bills, doing laundry, meeting friends for drinks, or watching Game of Thrones marathons. By the time we look up, the day’s almost over and Monday is on the horizon. For me, that usually means staying up late to get more done and losing sleep. I used to be able to run on minimal sleep but I’m realizing now I’m much more productive when I’ve had a full night’s rest. So put down your paperwork, laundry, cocktails and the remote control, and go to bed at a decent time! Also, invest in a good mattress, luxurious sheets, comfortable pillows and some sleep spray – whatever you need to be ready to rock out on Monday.
3. Spend time on self-care
I wasn’t even familiar with the term self-care until I started working at a company that stressed the importance of it. Self-care can mean different things for different people, but it really boils down to simply taking care of yourself. You know how they instruct you on a flight to put on your own oxygen mask first before helping others? That’s really how self-care works – take better care of your own physical and emotional needs first; then you can be more effective in working with and helping others. The weekend before, get a massage, meet up with family or friends, go see a funny movie or show, read the Bible or a business book, or do whatever makes you happy and relaxed. Then you’ll be ready to take on Mondays.
4. Think like a boss
What is it you want to accomplish during the week? Develop a plan over the weekend and decide how you’re going to execute it, starting on Monday. If you have a goal you want to achieve, a meeting you want to attend, or a class you want to take to boss up, set a plan over the weekend and on Monday, be ready to make it happen. Want to start a business? Read and prep over the weekends, and make an action plan that rolls out on a Monday. Having something to look forward to takes the feelings of dread and routine out of association with Mondays. Also, it helps to dress the part. Put on some boss gear in some power colors to motivate yourself!
