Listen, I don’t know what’s been going on this Winter but my skin seriously has been freaking out! I’m talking frequent, crazy breakouts, and this is coming from someone who barely had acne during my teenage years and most of my life. I eat well and drink plenty of water so I really have no clue what’s been going on. I’ve got an appointment with my dermatologist coming in a few weeks but until then, I’ve been trying to manage things on my own, with a few good skincare products.
I use different sets of products depending on the specific need, but many of my skincare go-to’s can be found at the drugstore! (Or in my case, Target, which is my personal drugstore / supermarket / everything else store). Here’s a look at some of my favorite, acne-fighting drugstore skincare product picks – all under $10 each!
–Clean & Clear Foaming Facial Cleanser
This is the best product I have ever used for cleansing my face! It isn’t too harsh, but is strong enough to keep skin care problems at bay. I have been using this for years, which is one of the reasons why I can’t pinpoint the cause of these sudden breakouts. Because this face wash is the TRUTH.
–Clean & Clear Daily Pore Cleanser
This cleanser has gentle micro-scrubbers that deeply cleanse your face. I don’t use it everyday because my skin is sensitive and it can be harsh if I used it often. When I do use it, I alternate between smoothing it on with my hands, or using an exfoliating facial sponge to really clean my pores and slough off dead skin.
Clean & Clear Essentials Deep Cleaning Astringent
-This product is great for taming oil and clearing up the acne on your face. It’s a bit drying so I wouldn’t recommend daily use, but it’s perfect for using in the midst of a breakout. I typically use it at night, first cleansing my face, then using a cotton ball to wipe it over problem areas. My breakouts usually clear up by the next day.

Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser
I just started using this cleanser last summer. I started using a popular foundation (and I don’t typically wear foundation) and my skin went nuts! I contacted my doctor who ‘prescribed’ good ole Pond’s Cold Cream. Whenever my skin goes on the fritz, I use this and it seems to bring it right back in balance. It’s a great makeup remover too – just slather it on your face and wipe it off with a wet washcloth. It leaves a slight oily layer on your face which ironically seems to prevent against breakouts. It’s good stuff!
St. Ives Timeless Skin Collagen Elastin Facial Moisturizer
Moisturizing is crucial, especially in the dry winter months but also year-round. This St. Ives moisturizer is a longtime fave of mine because it’s so lightweight and never feels greasy. It’s perfect for layering under makeup (if you wear it) and it gives your skin a nice, healthy glow!
What are some of your skincare faves? I always love to hear about other great products people are using!
