Hosting my radio show, “Eclectic Beats with Ehmonie”
Naturally, my first love is fashion but music comes in a close second. Music provides the soundtrack to my life – it inspires me to do everything that I love to do, and every important memory of different moments in my life has a song attached to it.
From an early age, I always had a passion for the arts, including everything from creating art (drawing and painting) to playing musical instruments, taking ballet, tap and jazz dance classes and attending all sorts of stage performances (ballet, opera, Broadway shows and concerts). The one thing that tied it all together was my love of music.
When I’m drawing, painting or doing something else artsy-craftsy, I’m always listening to music to inspire my creative process. Whether it’s the smooth sounds of Sade, the laid-back raps of Jay-Z, the chill beats of Kruder & Dorfmeister, or a compilation of Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears and other popular 80’s bands, I can’t create without my music.
I love going to dance clubs and salsa clubs, where I can spin to the music all night long. Also, living in New York has given me the opportunity to attend all sorts of Broadway and off-Broadway plays, concerts, jazz clubs, ballet performances and more – all filled with inspiring and moving sounds of music. From attending The Phantom of the Opera to Avenue Q, to Beyonce, Big Daddy Kane, Madonna, Karsh Kale and Prince concerts, music has enveloped some of the best moments I’ve had living in NYC.
Even when I’m just going about my life, I find that music plays a huge part in my daily routine. Whether I’m listening to my iPod on the train or running along FDR drive, music pushes me, brings about creativity and new ideas – some of which I use for my fashion writing and other creative projects. If I’m out having dinner or drinks with friends, playing pool, or just taking a stroll through the city, music provides the soundtrack for the evening.
Music is behind pretty much everything I do – music powers my life! So in the words of Rihanna, “Please Don’t Stop the Music“!
