If you want to go bold this summer, then follow my easy tips to achieve a gorgeous, flawless bright red lip! I’ve always loved the look of bold, bright lips, but was never sure how to perfect the look. I’ve been experimenting with some awesome lip products and have the answers you are looking for to get your lips red-ready.
First, you have to use a lip scrub to get your lips soft and smooth before attempting to go red. Any dryness or chapped lips with be very noticeable when you apply a bright color. I recommend a sugar lip scrub, such as Lush’s Bubble Gum Lip Scrub. Made with a blend of jojoba oil and fair trade sugar, this scrub not only smells (and tastes!) like sweet bubblegum, but it leaves your lips silky smooth. Another great lip scrub is Starlooks All Natural Lip Sugar. This vanilla lip scrub leaves chapped lips smooth and ready for color.
After your lips are soft and smooth, apply a light layer of balm. I love using something very sheer but hydrating, like Lush’s Honey Trap or Chocolate Whipstick. Both are balms that you rub on with your finger. I’ve found this is the best way to apply balm before doing a red lip, because it allows you to smooth on just enough to hydrate your lips without making them too slippery.
Now is the fun part. Your lips are smooth, hydrated, and ready for color. Since red lipsticks tend to bleed, you will have to line your lips with a lip liner prior to filling in with your lip color. I’ve found an easier way to achieve a flawless red lip without needing a separate liner. Urban Decay’s Super Saturated High-Gloss Lip Color combines a creamy lipstick with high gloss shine all in a chubby pencil! You can line and fill in your lips using one product and achieve a bright, glossy, red lip that stays put all day. The color F-Bomb is a gorgeous bright red cream that works great with all skin tones. Start by lining your lips with the pencil just inside your lip line. This way, when you blend, you won’t go over your natural lip line. Afterward, you can gently fill in your lips lightly with the pencil. Use a lip brush to smooth and even out the color. Blot any excess on a tissue. Because this product has built-in shine, you don’t need a separate gloss. And, you can easily throw this pencil in your purse to make quick touch-ups all day and night.
Red lips look great when the rest of you make-up is minimal. Let your lips be the statement and pair a red lip with a neutral eye look, or just mascara and a sweep of blush.
I hope these tips will encourage you to rock a gorgeous red lip this summer! Which red is your fave?
