Congratulations to Vanessa S., Loraine, Vittoria V., Jenny S. and Tara O.! You will each receive a signed copy of ‘You Know You Want It’ by Gossip Girl costume designer Eric Daman! Thanks to all who entered and stay tuned for more contests and giveaways from What’s Haute Magazine.
They say the clothes make the girl, and this is especially true on TV. Would we have loved Carrie as much if she didn’t love her Louboutins? Would we have tuned in so much if she and the girls didn’t have such fabulous wardrobes? Maybe, but the fashionable appeal of the characters drew us in even more. The same is true on Gossip Girl. Yes the show is great, and the drama draws us back from week to week but we like to keep a close eye on what Blair, Serena, Jenny and Vanessa are wearing. Chuck, Nate and Dan too.
Wonder how Blair got to wear the Valentino 360 bag and Alexandre Birman shoes before they even hit stores? Thank Eric Daman. He’s the Emmy Award-winning costume designer for Gossip Girl and now the author of a new book published by Random House: You Know You Want It, with a foreword by Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf).
In You Know You Want It, Daman will teach you everything you need to know to personalize your look and make it unforgettable. First he teaches you how to master the basics, like learning which clothes look best on your body and stocking your closet with ‘Totally Basic Essentials’ like jeans, the perfect pair of sunglasses, and a versatile little dress. Then he teaches you how to break some fashion rules, like wearing white pants in the winter, and stripes and dots together.
You Know You Want It also tells you how to:
• Learn about the silhouettes, shapes and lengths that will flatter your figure
• Prep your closet so you can admire, attire–and be inspired
• Uncover your signature style and your signature pieces
• See how accessories can change an entire look
• Use color to celebrate the seasons
• Harness the magical power of your local tailor and cobbler with Eric’s go-to fix-it guides
• Deal with unsightly stains and dropped hems when you’re in a rush or on the go
• Look your very best every day!
The book is chock-full of gorgeous fashions, chic photos, ingenious ideas, quick tips, and the 411 on where to shop for new to-die-for favorites. You Know You Want It is the essential guide to finding your fashion ‘Happily Ever After’!
We’ve got our hands of 5 signed copies to give away. To enter, leave a comment below telling us your own personal style tip. And for more entries, friend us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter. Contest ends December 24, 2009 at 11:59 pm EST.
Good luck!

I read somewhere along time ago that if you run an ice cube over your hair after you are done styling it it will help seal the cuticle and eliminate frizz. Especially nice to use if you just straightened your hair. I’ve done it before and it worked well.

Personal style tip – Don’t feel the need to follow every trend. Wear silhouettes that look good on you instead of whats hot for the moment.

Whenever I’m wearing a basic tee, I add a cute scarf and bold jewelry to transform my outfit from a simple one into an eye-catching one!
I friended you on Facebook and I’m a fan on Twitter (@princessla66).

My style tip is one I have heard before about making more of an investment with classic basics, and not to spend much for trendy items since they won’t be worn long.
A. Ozair says
if you are pear shaped try to stick with longer shirts which cover part of your hips…try to go for fitted tunics…i think it looks lovely!! 🙂

My personal style tip is to find the styles and colors that look best on you and to make them part of your basic wardrobe. On the other hand, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut, so every once in awhile, go shopping with a friend and let her choose a few outfits for you–something you would never try. You just might find something new to add to your wardrobe.
Vanessa S says
My personal style tip is to choose one bold piece to be the focal point and keep everything else simple.

I think confidence is the best way to accessorize any outfit. And what you wear have to be you. Fashion is not the same as style.

My fashion tip is to take advantage of belts. A well chosen one can turn a shapeless baggy sweater into a trim one that shows off your hourglass figure. Or a belt can add a splash of color toa monochrome outfit.

I absolutely agree! I started watching GG for the fashion, but got hooked on the drama! Now I love both!
My fashion advice is to always balance your outfit. Example: if wearing a billowy shirt, pair it with tight jeans! Or a tight jacket! Baggy pants with a baggy shirt just looks tired.

My personal style tip is that you can never have too many basic tees! You can go casual cute when paired with a cute pair of skinny jeans, sunglasses and cute flats/sandals. Or dress it up with a fur vest, heels and a statement bag!

Mine would be to try to put comfort before fashion. Especially shoes as it doesnt pay to hurt yourself just to look good.
shiki says
You can never go wrong with basic colours and natural materials. Always good buys.

Great fit is more important than fashion. If a cheaper garment fits you beautifully, it will look like it was more expensive. If a more expensive garment doesn’t fit you perfectly, it will look cheap. Get it altered or put it back on the rack.

Accessorize!!!! Accessories can only enhance your style.

High heels are the best accessorie and nude color shoes will make your legs look longer
