Celebrity-branded clothing lines are getting out of control. Just because you love fashion and wear fashion does NOT make you eligible to design fashion. We gotta give props to Lisa Wu-Hartwell from The Real Housewives of Atlanta for admitting that although she has a clothing line, she is no fashion designer because she does not sketch or sew. Thank you Lisa. But I guess Kristin Davis (Sex and the City, Melrose Place) missed the memo. She’s the latest celebrity to think she can ‘design’ a line of clothes. Coming from a show like Sex and the City, you’d expect her fashion game to be fierce, but instead, the clothing line (available at department store Belk) looks frumpy and very non-contemporary. It consists of apparel (tops, dresses, pants and skirts), jewelry, handbags and shoes, none of which will be gracing my closet. Although the collection looks cheap, the prices are not – most of the pieces, (with the exception of the sale items), are priced over $100 a piece!

She’s actually been designing a line there for a while. I’m pretty sure this is not her first collection for Belk (a store I’ve never been to.) I have no idea what the quality is like in person, but the designs do seem to reflect her personal sense of style. They are basic, feminine pieces. Certainly much better than most of SJP’s Bitten line, which, sadly, was not that great. There is nothing particularly interesting about these pieces, though.
I’m guessing that the stores often approach the actresses, not the other way around. As I said, I am not familiar with Belk or its demographic, so perhaps this collection fits in well and a more fashion-forward one would be a flop.

There’s a huge Kristin Davis collection at all the Belk stores in Coumbia. I want to like it…but it is a bit frumpy. The shoes and handbags look a a little on the cheap side but I think it will sell nevertheless. I agree – none will be gracing my closet!
