The DC restaurant scene has no shortage of great places to eat. And when there’s a new kid on the block, I’m happy to give it a try! I recently got the chance to preview one of D.C.’s newest hot spots, Roy Boys<\/a>, before it even opened to the public. I attended an influencer event co-hosted by owner Scott Parker, and blog friend, Dani Sauter of Blonde in the District<\/a>. I came out for the fried chicken and oysters, but stayed for the cool vibes and fun times! And of course, the amazing food and drinks, which I went straight to my table to indulge in.

But first, let me tell you about the d\u00e9cor and overall vibe. The restaurant is a hip-hop themed space. As soon as you enter, there’s a banner of celebrities eating (Roy Boys-branded food, naturally), with a neon sign atop it boasting “The world is your oyster” \u2013 which is a play on Nas’ “The World is Yours,” plus a nod to one of the marquee menu items. A multicolored painting of Notorious BIG holding oysters in his hands, with his symbolic lyric “It was all a dream,” (by Lynch Got Lost<\/a>) hangs to the left. And in the back, there’s a reproduction of that infamous Death Row pic featuring Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, Snoop Dogg. The bathrooms are fun too \u2013 the walls are covered with pics of the baby on the Cover of Notorious BIG’s ‘Ready To Die’ album. And the music from his album plays in the background. Sweet!<\/p>\n

Now on to the best part \u2013 the food and drink. The Southern menu coupled with a lot of Southern hospitality made for a really great night. If you’re a fan of soulful food, Roy Boys is your spot. There are plenty of fried chicken options: from sliders to large sandwiches, and chicken platters. I tried the “Drop it Like It’s Hot” sandwich and it was divinely fried with the perfect mix of slaw, pickles and ranch dressing to garnish it. My guest and I also indulged in the Fried Goodness platter, the Fried Pickles & Fried Green Tomatoes (clearly, there was a theme here), and the Barbecued Oysters. I don’t even eat oysters \u2013 but I sure did that night! We also tried a few of the sides which were good but the Brussels Sprouts were worthy of me returning to the restaurant just for another taste. The food overall was incredible. We were stuffed, but still left room for dessert \u2013 Ice Cream Tacos. I had the Pina Colada version which was sweet, pineapple goodness. My goodness!<\/p>\n

If you love great food, great music, and great vibes, you have to check out Roy Boys! I’ll be back for sure!
