Bridal bauble – the bib necklace
November 6, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 1 Comment
As a bride-to-be, I find myself following a lot of wedding traditions, but the fashionista in me wants to add a little haute couture to my wedding day look. So I’ve already purchased a gown that’s equal parts traditional and couture and now am on the hunt for some non-traditional accessories. My strapless gown begs for a bit of adornment around my neck and I feel a simple necklace just won’t do. So I’ve been considering a jeweled bib necklace. It worked for Beyonce at the Golden Globes – she wore a 200 carat diamond bib necklace by Lorraine Schwartz. Now while I am no R&B diva/red carpet fixture, I think I can still pull off the look on my wedding day. I found several haute options that are a touch more affordable than Beyonce’s billionaire-style baubles:
From left to right:
Carolee Crystal Bib Necklace, $295
Kenneth Jay Lane Large Fancy Bib Necklace, $1,040
The following are available for rent at Avelle (the new Bag, Borrow or Steal)
Miriam Haskell Pearl Choker & Earring Set
Kenneth Jay Lane Three Row Teardrop Bib Necklace

“Key to my…” necklace by EuforiA
October 13, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 1 Comment

Throughout fashion week, lines are blurred - fashion designers do double duty as stylists, editors, budding actors, and even publicists. Such was the case with Amanda Eufer - PR girl by day, jewelry designer by night. While in line at the Toni Francesc show during New York Fashion Week, I spotted Amanda’s amazing necklace, which she designed herself. The editor in me had to know more, so I later discovered her line titled “EuforiA“. This Dallas-bred designer first discovered her love for all things shiny as a competitive figure skater. After graduating from college and a stint at Marc Jacobs, she launched her designing jewelry, accessories and clothing line.
The vintage-y pieces are described as “1960’s pop art meets revolutionary Parisian design”. The piece that caught my eye is the “Key to my….” necklace, made of a large gold chain with a blue cotton grosgrain ribbon woven throughout. Multiple “Do not duplicate” keys hang from the chain, with sparkling blue Swarovski crystal drops. The result is a sweetly feminine necklace with just a bit of edge.

Ramona Singer for HSN: gorgeous estate jewelry…gorgeous prices
September 8, 2009 by Allison Croce · Leave a Comment
If you follow my beauty reviews, you’ll recall I recently raved about Ramona Singer of the Real Housewives of New York, and her amazing new skincare line. Well, I’m very excited to let you know all about her gorgeous collection of art deco, estate-inspired jewelry
Ramona is a graduate of FIT with a very extensive background in fashion. Taking influences from her own collection of estate pieces, Ramona has designed a gorgeous collection of earrings, pendants, bracelets, and rings. The pieces are exquisitely detailed in rhodium-plated sterling silver, and are set with various precious and semi-precious stones. In designing her pieces, Ramona wanted to offer affordable, timeless pieces that can be passed down to future generations.
In designing this jewelry line, Ramona really went all-out on the details. Rhodium-plating keeps the jewelry looking brand new, and the pieces are finished very beautifully with intricate details that you don’t see very often in affordable jewelry.
Most pieces average between $200-$500. My personal favorite is the pink topaz and diamond cuff bracelet, which Ramona said was inspired by her own estate piece.
The line is exclusive to Home Shopping Network and Ramona and her gorgeous jewelry will be featured on HSN on September 14th at 10pm EST, and September 13th at 11pm PST. I will definitely be watching, and I hope you will check it out as well. If you can’t wait (like me), head over to HSN.com and start shopping for Ramona’s gorgeous jewelry right now!
Gold snake chains are making a comeback
September 1, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 4 Comments
In case you haven’t heard, snakes are the new black. Everything ’snake’ is fair game; from the literal – python handbags and snakeskin shoes and boots; to the figurative – snake-cutout dresses, snake-printed tights, and snake-themed jewelry – and all of it is slithering its way into designer collections. One ’snake’ piece to watch (and cop) is the flat snake necklace. It looks much like the ‘herringbone’ chain that was popular in my heyday, and is now making a comeback. The Martin Grant Flat Snake Chain Necklace, as seen on Heidi Klum and Rihanna, is one undeniably hot piece, and comes in multiple colors and lengths - champagne gold and yellow gold; short, medium and long. But in case you’re not so inclined to shell out close to $700 for one of these babies, check out some other options below.
ABS Allen Schwartz Boogie Nights Multi Row Snake Chain Necklace, $256, Zappos
ABS Allen Schwartz Multi-Row Gold Snake Chain Torsade Necklace, Avelle
Tamra Long Necklace, $50.75, Chico’s
tuleste market Snake Multi Strand Necklace, $128, shopbop
Gold Snake Chain 3-Row Necklace, $14, torrid
Nested Chain Necklace, $24.50 (Buy one, get one 50% off), Express
Haute Bauble: Michael Kors’ chain link necklace - as seen on Rachel Roy
August 21, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 2 Comments
Rachel Roy really loves her Michael Kors chain link necklace! She first wore the silver version at the Cinema Society & Hugo Boss screening of “Inglourious Basterds” at the SVA Theater in New York City. Then she wore the gold version at “The September Issue” premiere at The Museum of Modern Art. The 24-karat electroplated gold over brass and sterling silver-plated over brass link necklaces go for $700 a pop. But since we’re not all couture fashion designers like Roy, here’s an affordable substitute chain-link necklace that is just as hot!
Wanna be a ‘trophy chick’? Get the necklace from White Trash Charms

I find myself watching more trashy TV than I care to admit, and the latest is Megan Wants a Millionaire. If you’re not familiar with the show, first - I commend you for having standards - but the premise is former Rock of Love groupie castoff and former I Love Money contestant, Megan Hauserman, is looking for love and money. Mostly money.
On I Love Money, Megan stated her sole goal in life was to become a trophy wife. Now you may be thinking, “What an idiot”, but you gotta give it to the girl for keeping it real. So I came across the perfect piece of jewelry for Megan – and others who may not be so brazenly outright in their quest for Mr. Moneybags Right. The Trophy Chick Necklace from White Trash Charms lets you put your relationship needs on display in the most adorable way. A miniature sterling silver (or gold vermeil) trophy dangles from a 16″ snake chain with a lobster clasp closure. The removable pendant is approximately 1″ wide x 1.6″ high and proudly reads “Trophy Chick”. So when your gold-digging begins, those guys can never accuse you of not being clear about what you wanted in the first place. Isn’t that right Megan?
Kiki de Montparnasse Fringe Benefits Necklace

This year it’s all about the statement-making necklace and no piece makes a greater statement than the Fringe Benefits Necklace by Kiki De Montparnasse. The maker of ultra-sexy lingerie now dabbles in jewelry design and the result is this provocative neckpiece. A sterling silver neck collar with a hook-and-eye clasp is embellished with 24” of silk fringe, knotted at the ends. The length makes it a little bit freaky, but maybe that was intended. I mean it is Kiki de Montparnasse! Use it to dress up a simple tank or dress, or use it for your own devilish devices…

Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Kate Walsh Doctors My Style
March 16, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment
[Every week our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to.
All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire ensemble. Yes, we know; there is a spot for her in heaven.]
I may be one of the few who truly loves Private Practice. Come on, people; don’t tell me you don’t dream of a doctor’s office filled with smokin’ docs! I also love Kate Walsh’s Bob. It’s chic and fresh, but still long and girly (unlike our pal Posh). And it looks so easy to deal with (unlike my unruly fro).
And now, not only am I jealous of Kate Walsh’s job and hair, but I’m jealous of her ‘fit. Cause it is just so cute. She looks totally fashion-forward for a day about town, which makes me believe that we can do it too!
But it’s a recession and we can’t afford to buy a $200 skirt! So leave it to me (your trusty budget fashionista) to break it down and find it for us all on the cheap:
Black Mini Skirt
This thing is the poster child for versatile. It’s cute to wear out with a hot pair of heels, or cute to wear cas(ual) with sandals or flats. And it spans all seasons: tights now, bare legs later!
If you want something a little more mini, this option works as well. Though I don’t reccomend dinner with grandma in this skirt.
V-neck
We all know how much I looove this shirt and that’s because it’s versatile: great for sweats yet sexy enough for this outfit. And this color - mmmm - it just adds some punch for spring
Leather Jacket
PETA may not like it, but everyone needs a leather jacket. And if you are all “I don’t eat or wear meat,” get a fake one. Or this totally cute retro number (right). Just get something.
Sunglasses
Now this is what I call Celebrity Chic on the CHEAP. Helloooo, Forever 21.
Black Tights
If you don’t already have them, HUE is definitely the best brand around. They are totally durable, cheap, and they sell em just about everywhere.
Necklace
I love this necklace. It’s equal parts fierce and whimsy, new and vintage, and it totally ups the intrigue on this outfit. If you’re not into this one, feel free to use a piece you’ve already got - any sort of statement pendant will do.
Purse
Cream, cute and also very cheap. Or, for something that won’t show all those stains from setting your bag down in a puddle of beer, try this grey option.
Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Amanda Bynes is High (Waisted)

So it’s (almost) March. I can’t believe it. Namely because I can’t believe I am actually this pasty and I don’t know if two months is enough time to rectify the albino-ness that is my skin.
But everywhere I turn it’s cute, short, tight, high waisted skirts. Ones that scream, “You have to have me!”And after seeing this look on Amanda Bynes, I know that I need to invest in some quality self tanner so that I too can rock this look without looking like I spent all winter soaking in a vat of White-Out.
So while I go grab some self tanner that won’t make me orange here is this week’s Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Amanda Bynes is High (Waisted)
Skirt:
So bright, so cute, so perfect for getting your groove on during spring break…or any spring night. Oh, and so much cheaper than the Herve Leger option that Bynes is rocking. And if you want a darker option (because you can’t wait until the warm weather hits to rock this look):
White tank:
You can go simple with the top like Amanda, or spruce it up a bit for a little more va va voom. You probably already have a bajillion white tanks in your closet, but in case you want one more (because the rest have arm pit issues….what, just me?):
Jewlery
You can do just about anything with this look: earrings, necklace, bracelet… or all of them. I happen to LOOOVE this flower earring; turquoise and pink is a great combo. And this necklace adds some pizazz to the basic tank. Bonus: word necklaces are great conversation starters with the lads….

Black Bag
Not too big, not too small. Plus the ruffles are tres chic.
Shoes:
Basic black, only switched up a bit
