Haute fashion + beauty news roundup: Rihanna responds to being called “De N*ggab*tch”; Adele may cover March 2012 Vogue; Alice Dellal is the new face of Chanel Boy handbags; Iris Apfel for MAC Cosmetics + more
CELEBRITIES: Rihanna has some choice words for the magazine who called her “De N*ggab*tch,” (they later apologized). The chanteuse called the editor and the magazine “a poor representation of the evolution of human rights.” She continued with: “u paid to print one degrading an entire race! That’s your contribution to this world! To encourage segregation, to mislead...

Chanel’s Metiers d’Arts fashion show was set up to resemble an Indian-themed dinner party, complete with banquet tables, chandeliers, floral arrangements, candlesticks and a large feast. Oh, there was a runway too. (Daily Mail)
What do cameras and skincare have in common? We’re not sure, but film and digital camera-maker Fujifilm, who has already launched the Astalift anti-aging...
Cool alert: Forever 21 puts on 3-D Hologram Fashion Show
How cool is this? Yesterday, Forever 21 produced a 7-minute 3-D fashion show featuring hologram models strutting down a ‘cosmic runway‘ filled with starbursts and invisible light up staircases. The event was produced in conjunction with space150 and unfortunately there were only two chances to see it ‘live’: yesterday in NYC at the Daryl Roth Theatre in Union Square (home of...
Trend report: Color clash at London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012
Matthew Williamson Spring 2012 runway
London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012 ready-to-wear shows have officially kicked off this week and among the many designers showing, one thing seems to be the common trend on the runway – color, and lots of it. Colorblock is still present but designers are going beyond that and pairing multiple garments in similar shades, rather than contrasting colors....

Haute off the Runway: Cynthia Rowley Spring 2012 collection #NYFW #MBFW
For Spring 2012, Cynthia Rowley debuted a collection of contrasting sporty and sweet looks. Her funky sportswear consisted of ‘mixed media’, like multiple iterations of perforated stretch fabrics (seen in tops, short-sleeved dresses and sleeves alone), gilded gold touches (overlaid on dresses, a ‘liquid’ gold skirt, shoes and handbags) plus an explosion of multicolored floral...
Haute off the Runway: Hervé Léger by Max Azria Spring 2012 runway (#NYFW #MBFW)
Yesterday I attended the Hervé Léger by Max Azria Spring 2012 runway show. Known for its line of iconic bandage dresses, naturally the front row was packed to the brim with celebrities, (including singers & actresses Taraji P. Henson, Ashlee Simpson, Jessica Szohr and Michael Michele, plus models Selita Ebanks and Jessica White), who wear them. Those who say the bandage dress moment is over...

Haute bag of the week: Christopher Kane Aqua gel-filled PVC clutch
We have previously featured Christopher Kane‘s bold and out-of-this-world creations, so we were delighted to discover a few of his handbags. Known for his provocative style and edgy approach to fashion, this Scottish designer continues to make his mark with eclectic designs and unexpected embellishments. The gel-filled Christopher Kane ‘Aqua’ large envelope clutch was spotted on...
Interview with Camilla Skovgaard
What does it take for a designer to move beyond convention, and more importantly, to get everyone else to follow them? Convention is a tricky word, especially when it comes to shoes, for in shoes a great deal of the design potential is lost because…people have to walk in them. I learned during my interview with white-hot rising shoe design star Camilla Skovgaard that accepting that a great portion...
Christian Siriano – Fall 2009 Fashion Week
Typically reality show winners suffer the curse of the sudden death of their careers once the show ends. But Christian Siriano seems to have shaken and broken the curse and his meteoric rise in the fashion industry has been something worth watching.
Siriano won last year’s Project Runway and since has reached celeb status, partly due to his fierceness, but mainly due to his incredible talent...
ADAM Adam Lippes – Fall 2009 Fashion Week
While other designers’ drab and dismal collections mirrored the state of the economy right now, ADAM by Adam Lippes went against the grain and shot bursts of color right up the runway.
Though the pictures don’t show it, ADAM’s collection was an ‘ode to Japanese iconography’ and chock full of colorfully vivid pieces. But ADAM didn’t solely rely on color to show off his design chops. A basic...
Monarchy Collection – Fall 2009 Fashion Week
From Russia with love seemed to be the common thread connecting most designers at the Mercedes Benz Fall 2009 collections. While Monarchy’s denim-based line seemed to have touches of Russian inspiration, the brand actually saddled up to a ‘Scottish equestrian’ theme.
Monarchy presented a mix of rugged eastern European-influenced biker-chic with modern bohemian looks under the direction...
Jordi Scott Collection: “Infamous Revolution” Spring/Summer ’09
Whenever there has been an aesthetic revolt against existing culture, fashion has always been out front. This does not happen because of any grand plans, it’s simply born out of a burning desire to be different mixed with anger and a rejection of what’s in. That fierce spirit was stamped all over Jordi Scott’s Spring/Summer ’09 collection. The collection was equal parts N.Y...
Haute Off the Runway: Ports 1961 Spring 2009
Ports 1961 is known for its knits but the Spring 2009 collection took a minor turn from the usual. The brand chose liquid fabrics and metallics for its collection. An iridescent orange dress with a hint of a pink slip stole the show. Overall, dress shapes were a throwback to the mod era featuring minidresses with shapely shoulders and geometric cutouts. Most styles within the collection were tribal-inspired...
Haute Off the Runway: Tracey Reese Spring 2009
Tracey Reese’s love of all thigs feminine was on full display in her Spring 2009 collection. The designer stuck to a palette of largely neutral colors with splashes of peach. Her shapes were ultrafeminine – tulip skirts paired with form-fitting cowl necked tops, drop-waisted dresses and flouncy above-the-knee floral print skirts paired with scoop neck blouses. Reese’s collection...
Haute Off the Runway: Gottex Spring 2009
Gottex’s nautical-inspired Spring 2009 show was its usual display of art meets fashion. Swimsuits were plafully designed with eye-popping colors and artful shapes. Bikinis were transformed into one-piece suits with the addition of an anchor decoration. Cartoonish style suits were given an athletic feel with hoods and body-hugging fits. Other simple suits became high-fashion with geometric ...
Haute Off the Runway: Lela Rose Spring 2009
Sunday morning brought clear and sunny skies and a delightful collection from Texan, Lela Rose. The effortlessly chic pieces expressed a laid-back attitude, rarely found in the fast-paced circles of New York City. She showed adorable natural waists on skirts and dresses in gorgeous citrine and green jewel tones. The clear must-have trend for spring is the one-shoulder chiffon frock, done seamlessly...
