Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: These Leggings Are Made for Partying And That’s Just What They’ll Do.
February 1, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 5 Comments
[Every week College Candy's style guru Jill takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to. All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire ensemble. Yes, we know; there is a spot for her in heaven.]
The fact that people are saying Jessica Simpson is FAT is baffling to me. She was way too thin before and she is still thin now. The media obsession with calling her fat is only perpetuating a society of anorexics and girls ripping other girls apart. I agree with our gal Jess when she said that “I feel like in our world, we focus on so many things that are unimportant. And I really just wanted to say this.”
So instead of focusing on her weight, I decided to focus on her fashion, because curvy or thin, blonde or brunette, this is one cute celebrity look that I wanted to find on the cheap.
Satin Trim Blazer
I believe that the infamous picture of Jessica Simpson proves one thing and one thing only: her stylist totally messed up. Instead of bringing negative attention to her body, this jacket brings the focus to the narrowest part of the waist line, which is flattering on everyone.
Leather Leggings
Leather leggings, while difficult to pull off, are a fun switch. The key is wearing a longer top or mid length blazer with them to cover your booty and thighs. If you like this look rock it! If not, black skinny jeans would look just as great without all the shine.
Sheer V-Neck T-shirt
You could go with any average t-shirt, but adding a little sheer (not to mention a totally hot super deep v) to your wardrobe totally ups the sex appeal.
Accessories
Since this look is pretty basic, feel free to spice it up with some fun accessories: a big pendant, a colorful bangle, a funky cocktail ring… The choices are endless!
Shoes
Since I don’t recommend going barefoot on campus like Jess is on stage, I found these oh-so-cute shoes to pair with the ‘fit. And for those of us in colder climates, either suck it up (cuz these hot shoes are totally worth it) or throw on some hot boots.
Haute Off the Red Carpet: the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards
January 11, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 3 Comments
Stars shined on the 66th Annual Golden Globes red carpet. Kate Beckinsale looked stunning in a sleek white J. Mendel gown that could easily be worn as a chic wedding dress.
Drew Barrymore looked astonishing and all grown up with a Marilyn Monroe hairstyle and a haute pale blue silk organza Dior gown.
Eva Mendes also looked amazing in Dior wearing a strapless white gown with a surprisingly flattering oversized bow down the front right side. A tiered turquoise choker accented the dress and her skin tone beautifully.
Beyonce wore her usual beaded creation but looked gorgeous as always with a diamond choker and her hair pulled back in a simple chignon.
Demi Moore and date, hubby Ashton Kutcher looked mismatched as they always do, but Moore looked pretty in a salmon pink dress with a crisscross neckline.
What were they thinking? With all of the stylists and designers clamoring to dress celebrities, I always wonder why some wind up on the red carpet looking like this! Here are the night’s fashion misses:
Anne Hathaway’s Giorgio Armani Privé royal blue silk gazar strapless gown, embroidered with Swarovski crystals looked bland against her pale skin and red lip and the absence of jewelry elongated her neck, giving her an overall look and feel of a peacock.
Maggie Gyllenhaal’s one-shoulder leopard print Lanvin dress didn’t follow the ‘less-is-more’ fashion rule. The print, mixed with the poufy shoulder plus the belt resulted in an overdone red carpet look.
Jennifer Lopez tried to channel her old self showing up in a barely-there liquid gold Marchesa gown. But the former ‘Fly girl’ is too old and not as toned as one should be to wear such a revealing dress.
Renee Zellweger aged herself twenty years with her bird’s nest hairstyle and this morbid sheer-bodiced black chiffon top and satin skirt duo by Carolina Herrera. And if you’re going to wear a sheer top, something other than a visible strapless bra is preferable and highly suggested.
Heidi Klum spent the past several years judging designer on Project Runway so you would think she would look stunning on the red carpet. Instead she opted for ’school prom’ with this print strapless sweetheart dress with a several seasons ago oversized flower.

Pick Platinum!
January 9, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment
With awards season in full swing, it’s time for celebrities to bring out the bling! And with Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, it’s time to start thinking of gift ideas. Diamonds may be a girls’ (and guy’s) best friend but diamonds set in platinum shine like the stars. But you don’t need to be a star to sport your own platinum baubles. Platinum has long been a status symbol – think platinum records, platinum awards, and of course, platinum jewelry. I personally love it because of its color, purity and durability. It’s naturally white like silver and white gold but its luster is much more brilliant. Platinum is typically 95% pure so it never fades or tarnishes like silver. And it is resistant to wear so even if your platinum jewels get scratched, you won’t lose much of the metal. The best part is it’s rarity – its actually 30 times more rare than gold, which adds to its exclusive and distinctive allure. If you’re thinking about a gift that can’t be matched, or just want to treat yourself to something special, think platinum!

Elizabeth & James Eliot Pant
December 16, 2008 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment
Who else but the Olsen twins could create such a stylish skinny pant?
So maybe they didn’t actually design anything in their Elizabeth & James line but these are très Mary-Kate and Ashley. These Elizabeth & James Eliot high-rise pants flatter the body, from waist to ankle, with the angled zipper pockets, hook-and-bar closure, piping details on the waist and pockets, and back welt detail. Wear it with a large boho top and funky jewelry, a Chanel bag and killer heels and you’ve got Olsen couture style.
Without all of the billions, of course.

Haute Trend: Go Mad for Plaid!
October 18, 2008 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment
It’s on tops, bottoms, dresses, bags, scarves - even shoes! It’s plaid! Celebrities have fallen in love with the check pattern this season in hot hues like fire engine reds, and jewel-tones like purple and green. The pattern looks great in all forms. Wear it like Vanessa Simmons as an evening gown. Or rock Rihanna’s rockstar look with a cropped jacket and jeans. Kelly Ripa opted for a simple plaid shift dress and Gwen Stefani’s tartan-style coat is ideal for fall weather. The key to wearing is to stick to one plaid piece per outfit, whether apparel or accessories. Plaid patterns can be overpowering so moderation is key.

Celebs Love Roland Mouret dresses
October 7, 2008 by Ehmonie Hainey · 1 Comment
The bandage dress may be a red carpet fave but celebrities and fashionistas in the know are getting to know Roland Mouret.
The buzz began in 2005 when the ‘Galaxy’ dress hit the Hollywood red carpets. The hype continued when super ‘Posh’ Victoria Beckham wore the pink RM by Roland Mouret Moon dress to her husband’s LA Galaxy game.
Fans of the RM by Roland Mouret Pigalle wool dress include singer/actresses, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez, supermodel & Project Runway host, Heidi Klum, burlesque star, Dita von Teese and Project Runway judge & fashion editor, Nina Garcia.
The thrill of Roland Mouret’s designs is within his body contouring cuts and signature understated sexy silhouettes. The dresses are full of flattering folds, drapes and flaps that complement any figure, giving you an hourglass shape. But with the quality and style comes high prices. Be prepared to shell out major cash for these couture clothes.

Haute or Not: Celebrity Headbands
September 20, 2008 by Ehmonie Hainey · 1 Comment

Celebrities are channeling their inner Wonder Woman with headbands tied around the forehead. Vanessa Simmons and Aubrey O’Day opted for thin styles, while Nicole Richie rocked a wider version, a silk and crystal braided Stacey Lapidus headband. Mary Kate Olsen drew stares with her Marc Jacobs runway-inspired ‘halo’ headband worn around her head. These new headbands are versatile. They can be worn with dresses, on the red carpet or dressed down with skinny jeans and a flowy, boho top. But are they a fad or here to stay? What’s your take on this trend: haute or not?
