Get up close and personal with the real ‘devil in Prada’ - Anna Wintour in “The September Issue”
August 20, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 2 Comments
It was a veritable “who’s who in fashion design” last night at the premiere of “The September Issue“. The documentary, directed by R.J. Cutler, is named after the most highly coveted and biggest (weighs over 4 pounds!) annual issue, the September issue of Vogue magazine.
Cutler delves into the work life of one of the most enigmatic fashion editors ever, Anna Wintour, and Creative director Grace Coddington, and gives us fashionistas an exclusive inside look at the industry’s proclaimed ‘bible’.
Wintour was quoted as saying: “Well, it’s very much the inside workings of the magazine - how we put an issue together, the hard work that it takes, the creativity, you know, the heartache and the successes. I think the September issue is really a benchmark for the industry so to see how it’s put together is obviously for us very special and we hope for the viewers.”
“R.J. is very discreet,” Wintour continued. “You know, obviously at the beginning we were all a little apprehensive but he was with us for nine months so at the end of it he was part of the team.”
The film opens in theaters August 28th in New York, September 11th in Los Angeles and other select cities TBD.
Check out the red carpet ‘fashion show’ starring your favorite designers.
Ed: I wonder if when asked “Who are you wearing”, was the response “Me”?

The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection at New York Fashion Week
February 14, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 1 Comment
This was my first time attending The Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection 2009 and it was an amazing way to kick off fashion week. Stars who usually sit front row were front and center on the red catwalk, donning stunning red designer dresses to raise awareness about heart disease in women.
Twenty celebrities strutted their stuff in the show. Following an introduction by Project Runway’s Tim Gunn, Amanda Bynes opened the show in Daniel Swarovski, followed by Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling, of Beverly Hills 90210 fame, in Badgley Mischka and Betsey Johnson, respectively. Then out came actresses Nia Long in Tracey Reese, Natasha Henstridge in Verrier, Vivica A. Fox in Jenny Packham, model/TV host Daisy Fuentes in Pamella Roland, Wonder Woman Lynda Carter in Carolina Herrera, and Patricia Arquette in Nicole Miller, followed by singer/actress Hilary Duff in Donna Karan and Katie Couric of CBS Nightly News in Carmen Marc Valvo.
The crowd was treated to animated dances down the runway from Cicely Tyson in B. Michael, Dancing With The Stars co-host Samantha Harris in David Meister, Valerie Bertinelli in Christian Siriano and soap opera megastar Susan Lucci in Gustavo Cadile.
Athletes got in on the glam act as well, with figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi in Vera Wang and Olympic gold medalist Nastia Liukin in Max Azria both modeling in the show.
Celeb spottings: Christian Siriano (Project Runway), Miss Jay (America’s Next Top Model), Gerard Butler, Marcus Schenkenberg, Peter Facinelli.
About The Heart Truth:
The Heart Truth created and introduced the Red Dress as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness in 2002 to deliver an urgent wake-up call to American women. For the first time ever, a selection of the designer dresses seen on the runway will be auctioned online in February through a partnership with Clothes Off Our Back. The Red Dress reminds women of the need to protect their heart health and inspires them to take action. Each February since its launch, the Red Dress symbol has come to life the runway with the support of the fashion industry and celebrity models at the Red Dress Collection Fashion Show.

Haute Off the Red Carpet: the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards
January 11, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 3 Comments
Stars shined on the 66th Annual Golden Globes red carpet. Kate Beckinsale looked stunning in a sleek white J. Mendel gown that could easily be worn as a chic wedding dress.
Drew Barrymore looked astonishing and all grown up with a Marilyn Monroe hairstyle and a haute pale blue silk organza Dior gown.
Eva Mendes also looked amazing in Dior wearing a strapless white gown with a surprisingly flattering oversized bow down the front right side. A tiered turquoise choker accented the dress and her skin tone beautifully.
Beyonce wore her usual beaded creation but looked gorgeous as always with a diamond choker and her hair pulled back in a simple chignon.
Demi Moore and date, hubby Ashton Kutcher looked mismatched as they always do, but Moore looked pretty in a salmon pink dress with a crisscross neckline.
What were they thinking? With all of the stylists and designers clamoring to dress celebrities, I always wonder why some wind up on the red carpet looking like this! Here are the night’s fashion misses:
Anne Hathaway’s Giorgio Armani Privé royal blue silk gazar strapless gown, embroidered with Swarovski crystals looked bland against her pale skin and red lip and the absence of jewelry elongated her neck, giving her an overall look and feel of a peacock.
Maggie Gyllenhaal’s one-shoulder leopard print Lanvin dress didn’t follow the ‘less-is-more’ fashion rule. The print, mixed with the poufy shoulder plus the belt resulted in an overdone red carpet look.
Jennifer Lopez tried to channel her old self showing up in a barely-there liquid gold Marchesa gown. But the former ‘Fly girl’ is too old and not as toned as one should be to wear such a revealing dress.
Renee Zellweger aged herself twenty years with her bird’s nest hairstyle and this morbid sheer-bodiced black chiffon top and satin skirt duo by Carolina Herrera. And if you’re going to wear a sheer top, something other than a visible strapless bra is preferable and highly suggested.
Heidi Klum spent the past several years judging designer on Project Runway so you would think she would look stunning on the red carpet. Instead she opted for ’school prom’ with this print strapless sweetheart dress with a several seasons ago oversized flower.
