Get ready to “Catch the Fever” with Beyoncé’s Heat fragrance

January 12, 2010 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment

There’s no stopping Beyoncé. From music to acting, to fashion and accessories, there’s no end to extensions of the Beyoncé brand. And now she’s launching her first fragrance - Heat. In an exclusive interview with WWD, Beyoncé commented “I’ve been working on it for a while now. I was on tour for a year, and I have meet-and-greets with fans. I’ve never in my life gotten so many compliments. Coty has their own testing, but that was my testing! The fans loved it. They were like, ‘I love that, I’m getting that, why isn’t it out right now? I need it!”

The inspiration for the name and packaging came from the singer’s tours - fire from performances, red and gold are among her favorite colors; thus the antique-style bottle looks like it’s on fire. The top of the bottle is edged with a gold band and a cap with the letter ‘B’, and inscribed on the bottle are the words ‘Beyoncé’ and ‘Heat’. The fragrance has notes of red vanilla orchid, magnolia, neroli and blush peach; a heart of honeysuckle nectar, almond macaroon and crème de musk, with giant sequoia milkwood, tonka bean and amber.

Beyoncé’s Heat, licensed by Coty, will be available in three sizes — 1 oz. eau de parfum for $39; 1.7 oz. eau de parfum for $49, and 3.4 oz. eau de parfum for $59. Also for sale will be a 6.8-oz. Gold Sparkling Body Lotion for $24. The complete collection will be available this February in the U.S. at approximately 2,000 department and specialty stores, (including Macy’s where Bey will make a personal appearance to Herald Square on Feb. 3.), as well as in Canada and Latin America.

Bridal bauble – the bib necklace

November 6, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 2 Comments

Beyonce at the 2009 Golden GlobesAs a bride-to-be, I find myself following a lot of wedding traditions, but the fashionista in me wants to add a little haute couture to my wedding day look. So I’ve already purchased a gown that’s equal parts traditional and couture and now am on the hunt for some non-traditional accessories. My strapless gown begs for a bit of adornment around my neck and I feel a simple necklace just won’t do. So I’ve been considering a jeweled bib necklace. It worked for Beyonce at the Golden Globes – she wore a 200 carat diamond bib necklace by Lorraine Schwartz. Now while I am no R&B diva/red carpet fixture, I think I can still pull off the look on my wedding day. I found several haute options that are a touch more affordable than Beyonce’s billionaire-style baubles:

From left to right:
Carolee Crystal Bib Necklace, $295
Kenneth Jay Lane Large Fancy Bib Necklace, $1,040
The following are available for rent at Avelle (the new Bag, Borrow or Steal)

Brian Lichtenberg Exclusive Freakum Dress

September 29, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment

Brian Lichtenberg Exclusive Freakum DressLook at what Beyonce started. First, she sang about a Freakum Dress; now someone went and designed one. Designer Brian Lichtenberg (Keri Hilson, Lady Gaga, Ciara and Bey are all fans) is the man behind the dress which is equal parts ‘freakum’ and ‘freaky’. A nude colored sheer mesh bodice is covered with contrast black jersey cutouts (that give the weird effect of Mickey Mouse ears) leading into a black jersey miniskirt. The top back of the dress is entirely sheer. We think Beyonce would approve.

She was dressed in a simple black tank and 3.1 Phillip Lim’s tiered zipper skirt. The skirt is sold out but you can cop the next best thing - the 3.1 Phillip Lim Double Knit Tiered Pencil Skirt in black, now on SALE for $119.50, (was $395).

Haute Topic: Kings and Queens of Pop (and Bling)

michael jackson style Kings and Queens of Pop and Bling shopping fashion

This week we’re paying homage to Michael Jackson - the man, the mystery, the music legend, humanitarian and fashion innovator and icon. Jackson’s unique sound and dance moves may have put him on the map, and his philanthropic efforts kept him there but it was really his fashion sense that really made him stand out and made us take notice. Early on he set trends with prepster looks (like his yellow cardigan and bowtie during the Human Nature era); colorful zippered leather jackets (a la Thriller), then later, sparkly socks and that single jeweled glove. Blinged out military-style jackets covered in sequins and crystals became his uniform alongside cropped black pants. Jackson’s style may have been a little over the top, especially for day to day, but designers and other celebrities paid attention and began to emulate his style. This season’s ever popular Balmain bandleader blazers were insipred by the King of Pop, and celebrities from Beyonce to Rihanna to Kim Kardashian to Victoria Beckham were all spotted wearing Jackson’s signature look. Celebrating Michael Jackson - the music, humanitarian and fashion icon

June 27, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 3 Comments

michael-jackson on stageThe loss of Michael Jackson shook the world on Thursday. Michael Jackson the entertainer not only impacted the music world in tremendous ways, he was also a global humanitarian, lending his support to 39 charity organizations either with monetary donations through project sponsorships. He received recognition in the 2000 edition of the Guiness Book Of World Records for breaking the world record for the “Most Charities Supported By a Pop Star”. Despite media allegations, Michael Jackson loved all children, and took time out while touring to secret visting sick children and even had special roms at his Neverland Ranch for sick and terminally ill children.

The influence of Michael Jackson in the music and entertainment world is beyond measurable. Drawing initial inspiration from his idol James Brown, Jackson adopted his own style that is truly unmatched. From his trademark sound and innovative dance moves to mini-feature length music videos like the iconic Thriller, most of today’s singers acknowledge being inspired by him.

His inspiration extended to the fashion world as well. Jackson’s style first made us take notice in the eighties, when the innovative pop star dazzled the stage with red, multizippered leather jackets and  high-water pants, white socks and loafers, and then on to aviator sunglasses with militaristic, bandleader-style crystallized jackets, socks and that infamous sequined glove.

Recently, Michael Jackson-influenced fashion was making a comeback, as seen in Christophe Decarnin’s spangled bandleader jackets for Balmain, reminiscent of the jackets Jackson has worn in the past. His likeness was even seen in Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s collection on his Fall/Winter 2009-2010 runway. Celebrities like Kanye West, Rihanna and Beyonce were all seen sporting the King of Pop’s style. Recently Jackson was spotted out wearing Riccardo Tisci’s (Givenchy) studded jackets, and Tisci was set to create looks for Jackson’s upcoming “This Is It” tour that was set to begin in London on July 13. Swarovski crystals were also a favorite of Jackson’s, with the crystal studs covering almost every inch of his ostentatious collection of jackets and performance outfits. Jackson was also working with Swarovski to design his stage wardrobe for his tour. The sets and Jackson’s costumes would have featured 300,000 crystals in 43 sizes and 27 colors. Nadja Swarovski, the company’s vp of communications told WWD on Wednesday: “As the King of Pop, it is only natural for him to be crowned in crystal.”

Rest in peace Michael Jackson (1958-2009). You will certainly be missed but your influence in the realms of music, philanthropy and fashion will be everlasting.

Beyoncé’s haute look: Sretsis ‘Clara’ tiered dress

June 15, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment

Beyoncé spent last week in London doing what all celebrities do best - shopping and partying. And a little bit of ‘work’ thrown in for good measure. The R&B diva was spotted leaving Heathrow airport after ‘working’ wearing a khaki Matthew Williamson trench (the same as Rihanna wore a few weeks back) and the Sretsis Clara Tiered Dress in Cream.

Stretsis, which is ’sisters’ spelled backwards, is a line designed by Pim Sukhahuta along with her two sisters. Sukhahuta opened her first boutique when she was still a student at Parsons, featuring her quirky, feminine designs, use of whimsical prints, and elegant fabrics. The Clara Tiered Dress is just one example. Made of 100% silk with a 100% viscose lining, this mini dress features tiered layers of flirty ruffles with a feminine bow at the neck. Beyoncé is obviously a fan of Stretsis. Are you?

2009 Oscars Red Carpet Best and Worst Dressed

Oscars Red Carpet 2009 Anne Hathaway Marisa Tomei Taraji P. Henson Miley Cyrus Evan Rachel Wood

The 2009 Academy Awards red carpet saw a lot of winter white gowns. Anne Hathaway looked gorgeous in a diagonal pailette-patterned strapless Armani Privé gown and Roger Vivier clutch. Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson looked stunning in an ivory Roberto Cavalli gown and Mary Norton clutch. The Wrestler co-star Evan Rachel Wood wore a beautifully draped Elie Saab Couture gown. Marisa Tomei was absolutely breathtaking in her white Versace gown that just arrived this morning! Miley Cyrus looked like an elegant young stunner in her Zuhair Murad gown that she claimed weighed ‘100,000 pounds’. She completed the look with a Mary Norton clutch and BCBG heels.

Oscars Red Carpet 2009 Jessica Biel Tilda Swinton Beyonce Freida Pinto

As always, there were a few red carpet misses. Jessica Biel wore a very unflattering strapless duchesse satin Prada gown with a huge bow and flap down the front which mushroomed out her curvy shape. Tilda Swinton looked eerily drab in a tan ruched blouse/black skirt comboby Lanvin. Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto did nothing to accentuate her beauty with this blue beaded one-shoulder gown by John Galliano. Beyonce opted for her usual mermaid-style gown but this year’s choice was a black House of Dereon dress with a gold-gilded flower print that left her looking more like drapery than red carpet couture.
