R.I.P. Alexander McQueen

The fashion world suffered a huge loss today. On the heels of the start of New York Fashion Week and several weeks before before he was set to unveil his new collection at Paris Fashion Week, it has been reported that iconic fashion designer Alexander McQueen has died. Reportedly, McQueen took his own life, three years after his close friend and mentor Isabella Blow, herself committed suicide.

McQueen, in our eyes, was a fashion innovator and genius. He took all the right risks, always pushed the envelope with his creativity and continually made us fashionistas fall in love with his fashions, time and time again. His apparel collections were vibrant and over-the-top, and at times paid homage to his native England. His shoes and handbags were innovative, ranging from Victorian-style to gothic (with signature skull details), to funky (his alien-footed shoes from his Spring ‘09 show) and even paid homage to icons (we see the Michael Jackson influence in the McQueen Faithful Glove clutch).

In the fashion world, where trends are fleeting and icons are rare, his influence and stamp on the industry will be everlasting, and sorely missed. Rest in peace Alexander McQueen.

Star style: Rihanna and her multiple wardrobe changes

If there’s anyone that can do multiple wardrobe changes without even being on stage, it’s Rihanna. The singer was spotted around town in four, count ‘em – four different looks yesterday.

First, she was spotted leaving MTV Studios in new York City wearing this Alexander McQueen Asymmetric-Stripe Sweater Dress. She was there to tape an interview for It’s On With Alexa Chung.

Rihanna was later spotted on the streets of New York City with her BFF Melissa, in a biker chic look of a black satin biker jacket, black skinny jeans and a black leather biker hat.

That evening, she attended the the 2009 Women of the Year awards hosted by Glamour Magazine at Carnegie Hall. She looked stunning accepting her award in an ivory Stephane Rolland Couture floor length origami dress.

Then she ended the night changing into another floor-length evening gown for the after-party; this time a beautiful blush pink colored dress with a slit “up-to-there”.

Alexander McQueen challenges you to wear the most ridiculous shoes on Earth

We first spied these alien-footed Alexander McQueen mega heels at Paris Fashion Week and wondered how much they paid the models in order to force them to wear them on the runway. Now British Vogue scored a python pair (nicknamed the “armadillos”) and the staffers couldn’t even make it down the hall in them. At 12 inches tall with a towering stiletto heel, these shoes are only viable footwear candidates for one woman and one woman only. You might know her by the name ‘Barbie doll’.
