May 6, 2010 by Ehmonie Hainey · 3 Comments

ZM925 jewelry on estileThe name is simple but the jewelry is utterly unique. ZM925 is designed by Zoe Sernack, an Australian artist, who has been exhibiting for the last 12 years. Her collections are quirky, and slightly morbid, but simultaneously eye-catching and are so brilliantly designed you’ll ignore the creepiness of them. We love these laser-engraved pine wood necklaces and brooches. This collection is the Da Vinci Range, inspired by the late Leonardo Da Vinci and his well known anatomical drawings. Tropically-inspired: the Nehita Pineapple necklaceLately we can’t shake the thought of a nice, beachy vacation from our minds. Maybe it’s the ‘lion/lamb’ March weather that’s getting to us, but we can’t help but yearn for blue skies, sunny, sandy beaches and yummy pina coladas. Back to reality – we’re not going anywhere tropical anytime soon, so we’ll instead opt for this tropically-inspired pineapple necklace from Nehita.

Made of 18K gold on a 16″ diamond chain, this fun Pineapple necklace is a haute mix of diamonds on a yellow and white gold pendant. The Nehita fine jewelry collection draws from designer MonaLisa’s South African heritage, incorporating diamonds and colorful natural gems with the finest in silver and gold. Wear it and feel like you’ve been transported to a tropical isle.

Now if we could just make a quick getaway too…

A rock in a hard place: Ken and Dana Design natural rough amethyst ring

November 12, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment

Ken and Dana Design street-inspired natural rough amethyst ringWhen it comes to jewelry, sometimes we like it rough. Smooth, polished stones are nice, but rough cut gems gives us that little extra edge. The handmade pieces from Ken and Dana Design satisfy our needs.

For their ‘Graffiti’ series, they explored New York’s street art and were drawn to the significance of what was written on as much as the writing itself, and the relationship between the art and New York’s buildings became the inspiration for their “geometry” series.

Though the Geometric Brass Cube ring and Natural Rough Pyrite ring first caught our keen art eye, the Street-inspired Natural Rough Amethyst ring is our personal fave. Equal parts rough and romantic, this purple hued gemstone is pretty despite it’s natural state, but the two-finger style adds a slight bit of a of ‘downtown’ feel.

Cause it’s rough in these parts.

This silver tone ring features the platinum tab from the periodic table of elements - you remember that from high school Chem class, right? The flat face reads the number, the symbol, name and weight. At $88, of course it isn’t real platinum, but you can fake it til you can afford it!

You better ‘Work’ - Vita Lagina Giant Stud bracelet

Vita Lagina Giant Stud bracelet

Who knew Balenciaga made bracelets? Actually, they don’t, but this Vita Lagina Giant Studicon bracelet definitely gives off the same vibe. The gold stud detail looks just like what you might find on the Balenciaga Work with Giant Hardware, except in bracelet form. The purple leather is rich and the belt buckle closure is quite chic. Gives new meaning to the term “arm candy”.

“Key to my…” necklace by EuforiA

October 13, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 1 Comment

Throughout fashion week, lines are blurred - fashion designers do double duty as stylists, editors, budding actors, and even publicists. Such was the case with Amanda Eufer - PR girl by day, jewelry designer by night. While in line at the Toni Francesc show during New York Fashion Week, I spotted Amanda’s amazing necklace, which she designed herself. The editor in me had to know more, so I later discovered her line titled “EuforiA“. This Dallas-bred designer first discovered her love for all things shiny as a competitive figure skater. After graduating from college and a stint at Marc Jacobs, she launched her designing jewelry, accessories and clothing line.

The vintage-y pieces are described as “1960’s pop art meets revolutionary Parisian design”. The piece that caught my eye is the “Key to my….” necklace, made of a large gold chain with a blue cotton grosgrain ribbon woven throughout. Multiple “Do not duplicate” keys hang from the chain, with sparkling blue Swarovski crystal drops. The result is a sweetly feminine necklace with just a bit of edge.

Haute Bauble: Michael Kors’ chain link necklace - as seen on Rachel Roy

August 21, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 2 Comments

Rachel Roy really loves her Michael Kors chain link necklace! She first wore the silver version at the Cinema Society & Hugo Boss screening of “Inglourious Basterds” at the SVA Theater in New York City. Then she wore the gold version at “The September Issue” premiere at The Museum of Modern Art. The 24-karat electroplated gold over brass and sterling silver-plated over brass link necklaces go for $700 a pop. But since we’re not all couture fashion designers like Roy, here’s an affordable substitute chain-link necklace that is just as hot!
