Haute or Not: Givenchy’s Wool ‘Cat’ Hat

Last year crazy animal hats were all the rage. Cute as it was, thankfully (and hopefully) that particular trend is over, but still designers can’t resist being inspired by four-legged furry friends. For Givenchy, Riccardo Tisci has already brought us animal fashion in the form of a Rottweiler (as seen on Kanye West and Liv Tyler), and now Tisci’s bringing us the Givenchy Wool ‘Cat’ Hat – as seen on the runway, it’s the newest twist on the animal trend. It’s basically your average wool baseball cap featuring miniature ‘cat’ ears, and said to...  Read More..

Haute or not: Christian Louboutin “Police” Measuring Tape Sandals

We’re not sure if Mssr. Louboutin is just being cheeky or if he’s gained so much popularity among the fashion elite that he can design pretty much anything (and we fashionistas will totally buy it). Either way, we have to say we were surprised to see these Christian Louboutin “Police” Measuring Tape Sandals, and even more surprised that after our initial shock there was awe and then the thought “Hmmm, those might be cute with (choice of outfit here).” Neiman’s description of these black, yellow and white pop-art sandals is that they’re “dramatic...  Read More..

Love ‘em or hate ‘em: Harem pants

Harem pants are one of those fashion items that always seem to be popular, even though they’re equally loved and hated. Called harem pants, ‘Hammer’ pants, or genie pants, they can range from high-fashion – on and off the runway – to costume-y – think “I Dream of Jeannie“. They’re trendy but while some brave fashionistas can successfully rock the look, many others shy away from the droopy pants. Four of our favorite fearless celebrity fashionistas have rocked them, but we still have mixed feelings on their looks. We can always count on Gwen Stefani, Keri...  Read More..

Haute or not: LeAnn Rimes in a crocheted Pucci wedding reception gown with matching bag

Image via MTV Style When MTV Style reported that LeAnn Rimes walked down the aisle last weekend in this crochet-knit, belly button-baring gown and matching crochet/fringed bag, we thought they were kidding. As it turns out, they were partly right. Rimes DID wear this gown/bag combo for part of her wedding to Eddie Cibrian; the reception part. And while we’re huge fans of Emilio Pucci and think the ‘gown’ would make a cute, beach coverup and the bag, perfect for carrying beach essentials, we can’t help but think this is a major fail for wedding attire. What do you guys think...  Read More..

Weird winter animal hats – you decide: are they haute or not?

We first saw Khloe Kardashian sporting a hat resembling a stuffed animal around Halloween. We dismissed it as a cutesy costume, but then she took the look to the streets a few more times. Ke$ha, Lindsay Lohan, and Fergie have become fans of the furry and weird hats too, and voila – a new winter trend was born! We haven’t seen hats like these since we were kids, and perhaps the new fashion trend is to wear in adulthood whatever you wore as a child (remember the adult onesie?). We’re not sure if we love or hate these weird, stuffed animal-like winter hats, but secretly we have to...  Read More..

Haute or Not – Leighton Meester in Christopher Kane

Leighton Meester came out to attend a special advanced screening of “Spread”, hosted by Gotham and Hamptons Magazines to support Gossip Girl co-star and boyfriend Sebastian Stan. The actress wore a piece from Christopher Kane‘s 2010 Resort (first-ever) pre-collection, which features amber-colored mushroom cloud prints from nuclear test explosions. (Kane took the free prints from the U.K. Ministry of Defense website.) The chemically-hued prints made their way onto a baby-doll dress, worn by Meester, that looked more like a bikini top, short sleeves and skirt all cobbled together....  Read More..

Haute or Not: Christopher Kane’s ‘Gorilla’ dress

Inspired by “Planet of the Apes” (of all things), Christopher Kane took the jungle and put it onto his Spring 2009 runway. Add to that a little dash of “The Flintstones”, Raquel Welch in “One Million Years B.C.”, and then Dian Fossey and her gorillas, said the designer. The result? Gory gold-fanged apes, monkeys, mandrills and gorillas printed on scalloped, avant garde dresses and oversized black tees (which are available for purchase online at LUISAVIAROMA.COM). Already worn by  Kristen Stewart (“Twilight”) and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, (daughter...  Read More..

Haute or Not: Celebrity Headbands

Celebrities are channeling their inner Wonder Woman with headbands tied around the forehead. Vanessa Simmons and Aubrey O’Day opted for thin styles, while Nicole Richie rocked a wider version, a silk and crystal braided Stacey Lapidus headband. Mary Kate Olsen drew stares with her Marc Jacobs runway-inspired ‘halo’ headband worn around her head. These new headbands are versatile. They can be worn with dresses, on the red carpet or dressed down with skinny jeans and a flowy, boho top. But are they a fad or here to stay? What’s your take on this trend: haute or not? Shop...  Read More..
