Birchbox: Beauty, delivered!
I have been hearing so much buzz about beauty sample box subscriptions so I figured it was time for me to learn more. I was so excited when Birchbox sent me one of their sample boxes. It contained some information on the history of the company, which was founded in September 2010 by two friends Katia and Hayley, as well as a card explaining how the service works. Birchbox members pay $10 a month for a monthly delivery of 4-5 deluxe samples that are hand-selected to match their beauty profile. In addition, each member has the option to shop Birchbox.com for full-sizes of samples that they fall...

Drugstore Find: Simple Skin Care – the UK’s best, now in the US!
I recently purchased some Simple skin care products from my local drugstore. The line was new to me and looked to be really natural and affordable. I then started seeing the TV commercials for this line. They are a UK-based skin care brand focused on using natural ingredients. The packaging is green and fresh-looking and I was excited to give the products a try!
I bought the Kind to Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes and the Hydrating Light Moisturizer. I really liked using the wipes; they are not overly saturated, are pure and light and do a wonderful job of removing makeup and cleansing the skin. These...

We told you a few weeks back that Essie’s new line of nail polish for Fall was inspired by post-war 1940s and 1950s handbag colors. But founder Essie Weingarten recently told InStyle.com: “The type of woman whose handbag speaks volumes about her, that’s who inspired me with this collection. Like Kate Middleton when...

Interview with Dr. Francisco Colon: Your top skin care questions answered
After my wonderful skincare appointment with Judie at the Peer Group Center for Plastic Surgery, I met with Dr. Francisco Colon for a question and answer session. I felt so lucky to be able to ask all my burning skin care questions one-on-one to a top plastic surgeon.
To start, I asked Dr. Colon to explain the differences between medical facials, as offered at his center, and spa facials. Basically, his reply was that medical facials are results-based, scientific, and the basis for developing an ongoing skincare regimen. Clinicians that perform medical facials are much better trained to deal with...

My medical facial at the Peer Group for Plastic Surgery
I was very excited as I headed into New Jersey last month for my skincare appointment at the Peer Group for Plastic Surgery in Florham Park, New Jersey. I was on a quest to learn first-hand about medical facials. Up until now, I had only enjoyed spa facials and this was my first visit to a medical facility for beauty treatments. The office looked very inviting and upon arriving, I met my aesthetician Judie. She was really welcoming and very knowledgeable about skincare. I immediately realized one big advantage to visiting a medical facility for skincare-you will get personalized treatment that...

According to Women’s Wear Daily, Sarah Jessica Parker has a new fragrance in the works called SJP NYC. SJP was inspired by her own character, Carrie Bradshaw. She said she drew upon “people’s impressions of seeing Carrie Bradshaw walk down the street”, what feelings that evokes for her and for them, a love for New York City and, fashion of course.

We are heading into spring, however it’s still that transition period where it is often cold, rainy and windy. It is a good idea to baby your skin a bit as the weather changes so you can make any adjustments in your cleansing and moisturizing routine.
I recently had the chance to send a bunch of questions over to Dr. Marsha Gordon, a dermatologist from the St. Ives skin care company. Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil – Cleanse your face…with oil?
I recently received a sample of Shu Uemura’s Premium Cleansing Beauty Oil. Prior to that, I was unaware of the usage of oil as a cleanser. I can’t lie, the thought doesn’t sound right to me. I think I’m more worried about washing away the oil than adding more onto my face.
It took me a few weeks to get up the nerve to use this cleansing oil. I was unsure how to even use it, so I took a look at Shu Uemura’s website and read about the history of this product. It was nice to learn that mineral oil, the basis of this cleanser, has healing and soothing properties, as well as being great...
