Living in NYC for a decade, I was surrounded by a variety of cultures and immersed in a plethora of tastes. That experience, and the restaurant scene, is hard to match. But the D.C. restaurant scene measures up and is one of the best I’ve experienced. I love exploring the wealth of local options. There are a ton of permanent restaurants as well as pop-up dining experiences. The latest addition to the local culture is the Taste Of Australia: Sensorial Dining Experience. The event is at Gravitas DC, hosted by True Aussie Beef & Lamb, and in partnership with MO Sisters wines & Cuisine Solutions.
This interactive dining experience, features “tastes, smells, and sounds of this sought-after travel destination.” You’ll indulge in a 4-course meal and “an authentic, immersive Australian environment.” It starts at 5:30 each night, and kicks off today, Sunday, November 17. Each night of the 3-night experience begins with a cocktail happy hour with four special bites. The menu design is courtesy of chefs Renee Scharoff (Boston) and Claudette Zepeda (San Diego, a 2020 James Beard nominee), who spent seven days in Australia last spring.
I’m attending and will share the experience on Instagram. Follow along at @whatshaute and @whatshaute_eats!
