It’s time for a goals check in! There are only three months left in 2019. Are you still on track to achieving whatever goals you set for yourself for this year? I have a few things I’ve yet to accomplish before 2020 and some things I won’t accomplish until the New Year, but that’s ok! It’s better for me to work on things I can achieve quickly (small wins) and still create an action plan for the rest of them, going forward. But to help myself – and you – stay on track, here are three key tips for tackling your goals that remain on your to-do list:
1. Eliminate distractions:
Distractions are the enemy of progress. It might look like mindless scrolling on social media. Or binge watching Netflix shows. Or maybe you’re hitting happy hour every night with friends. Whatever it is, it’s easy to find something that takes you away from working on and towards your goals. We’re all guilty of it – I’m not at all judging. I love scrolling down the rabbit hole of Instagram, and catching up on Power and the Real Housewives, and of course, hanging out with my friends. But I also limit myself with each of those things, as well as other distractions. If you can get up early and start your day earlier, that’s a greta way to tackle goals, day by day. But if you’re like me and not a morning person, then set aside dedicated time each day, or at least several days a week, to work on your goals. And just say no to extra time spent doing wasteful activities.
2. Write down your plan, make it plain:
‘They say’ (I always laugh at that phrase because who are ‘they’?! In this case, it’s Inc.com) that if you write down your goals, you’re 42% more likely to take action on them – and achieve them. Maybe because it’s a tangible reminder of what you promised yourself and you can’t avoid it or ignore it – or forget it as easily if you’ve written it down. Do you have a ton of journals or planners lying around? Put them to use. Make one specific for your goals and get to writing!
3. Celebrate small wins:
There’s no better feeling than the feeling of accomplishment! no matter what it is, it feels great to check something off your list. when you achieve whatever goal you set for yourself, large or small, it’s time to celebrate! I’m not necessarily referring to throwing yourself a large party or catered affair – unless it is an achievement of that magnitude. But for small wins, treat yourself in a little way. Maybe it’s having dinner with friends – or simply treating yourself to something. but whatever you do, take the time to congratulate yourself. But don’t get too distracted! You gotta stay on track to hit those next goals out of the park!
So, goals check in:
