Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Beyoncé slayed our collective weekends with her Beychella performance. It’s amazing we can all get up and function properly this Monday morning!
I love music that solely entertains, but more so I love music with a message. Beyoncé is so great because she’s super talented, of course, but also because she continues to use her music as a powerful platform to give a voice to women, particularly Black women, and people of color.
When I find an album or two that I truly love, I have it on repeat pretty much 24/7. In 2016, I was rockin’ Lemonade and A Seat at the Table nonstop (yeah, I love the Knowles family). But both albums were such powerful pieces of art – one about growth as a Black woman in society, and one about growth as a Black woman exploring her relationships. Despite the Knowles sisters’ continued reign in the music world, there’s a ton of other women artists that kick ass and take names with their tunes.
Here’s a power playlist of strong, beautiful, talented women artists whose music you should have in your iPod/Spotify/Apple Music rotation and on repeat!
