I don’t typically get dressed up to go to the movies but there are a few I’ve made an exception for. Sex and the City I and II were major fashion events, so I dressed accordingly. And most recently, I knew I had to “bring it” for Black Panther. When the images from the movie first leaked, everyone started talking about what they were going to wear to the movie once the film hit theaters. And seeing everyone’s pics online, the looks did not disappoint!
The women and men of Wakanda were dressed in their best threads, so why wouldn’t we join them when going to Wakanda?! I originally planned on wearing this floor length print maxi dress I got at a sample sale years ago when I went to see the movie. I was inspired by the cast of characters’ costumes (designed by Ruth E. Carter). They were smart and stylish warrior men and women dressed in elegant, regal, edgy, futuristic, and beautifully detailed threads and jewels. I also fell in love with their colorful prints and vibrant styles representative of the Homeland. I thought this statement-making dress would be the perfect piece to rock to go see the film. At the last minute, I decided on a different outfit, thanks to changes in the weather. I went with a look more traditional of the Black Panther party: all black everything with a beret and dark sunglasses.
Did you see Black Panther yet? What did you think of the movie? I’ll probably go see it a few more times – it was that good. But Marvel movies typically are. The cast alone was incredible: Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa/Black Panther), Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), Angela Bassett (Ramonda), Forrest Whitaker (Zuri), Michael B. Jordan (Killmonger), Sterling K. Brown (N’Jobu), Letitia Wright (Shuri), and Danai Gurira (Okoye) each had starring roles and amazing storylines. The plot, fight scenes, music and visuals were beyond. And there was a nice bit of eye candy too! I’m personally looking forward to a film featuring a showdown between M’Baku and Thor. Strictly for the eye candy, of course. Make it happen, Marvel!
