Shoes are one of my weaknesses, and I’ll happily ‘invest’ in a great pair. But I tend to stay away from the expensive, trendy pairs that might be out of style in a season or two. This season, the pom pom trend is dominating the accessories market, especially shoes. The standout pair that I’ve seen on countless style bloggers are the Aquazzura Pom Pom Heels. These open toe heels feature a slim toe band, embellished with multicolored pom poms, both at the toe and at the ankle tie closure. Beautiful shoes, but retailing at $825, I decided to pass, and DIY my own. That way I can have the best of both worlds – my own, chic pair of pom pom sandals; then when the trend is over, I can just remove the pom poms and still have a great pair of heels!
These pom pom sandals were pretty quick and easy to create. And affordable – I got the shoes on sale for less than $20! And the pom poms were courtesy of Joann, so my total cost was $20 and about a half hour of my time.
Wanna make your own pom pom sandals? Here’s what you’ll need:

-Needle & thread
Instructions:
-Pick the color pom poms you want to use, and lay them out for each shoe
-Thread your needle and knot the end of the thread
-Sew directly through the center of each pom pom and wrap thread around the toe band of the shoe one or two times, to keep the pom poms stable
-Repeat for each pom pom and each shoe; knot the end of the thread when complete
-Take one or two larger pom poms and sew through the center while wrapping thread around the ends of the ankle straps; knot the end of the thread when complete
