I’ve always been a huge fan of butter LONDON‘s highly coveted nail polish line. But in 2013, the brand launched a full line of color cosmetics, which I was recently lucky enough to receive some samples for summer. The brand sent over a box of cosmetics and they must know me well because it’s the exact four products I can’t live without: lipstick, eyeliner, mascara and of course, nail polish. 😉
butter LONDON LIPPY Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon in Ladybird // butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in Ladybird
Given the fact that I’ve been rocking a red lip and red nails on the regular since my high school days, of course the first products I dived right into were the butter London LIPPY Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon in Ladybird ($20) and butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in Ladybird, $15. The lip pencil went on smoothly, and I was expecting a true red but instead it was a red with a twist – an orange-y red! It’s a great color because I’ve heard some people say that they just can’t do regular reds but this color could work for most skin tones. I’ve been wearing it in the day, with minimal makeup on the rest of my face, but it could work for night too, with a smoky eye and even a strong blush. Oh, and besides the unique color and smooth finish, another thing I love about the pencil is its built-in sharpener (so you don’t have to dig around in your makeup bag for one).
The nail lacquer seems to be less orange-y than the lip pencil, even though they are the same hue (Ladybird). I’ve been doing at-home manis and pedis using this nail color and against my skin tone, it comes across as a true red. Of course, nail polish colors change slightly based on how many coats you apply. I used a clear base coat, then applied about 2-3 coats of the polish and this was the result:
butter LONDON Wink Eye Pencil in Union Jack Black // butter LONDON Iconoclast Mega Volume Lacquer Mascara in Brilliant Black
Next, I tried out the butter LONDON Wink Eye Pencil in Union Jack Black, $18 and butter LONDON Iconoclast Mega Volume Lacquer Mascara in Brilliant Black, $20. First off, the eyeliner seems to embody the name of the brand, because it goes on smooth like BUTTER! I’ve never experienced an eyeliner so smooth! Usually you either have one of two options: the eye pencil that you continually have to sharpen and hope you don’t poke your eyes out when applying, or a liquid eyeliner that goes on smoothly but leaves wet glops of makeup floating in your eye. Neither is ideal. But butter LONDON’s Wink Eye Pencil is the perfect marriage between these two options. It’s soft and creamy so you can apply it safely and can easily achieve the perfect cat eye, because isn’t that the whole point of wearing eyeliner?! 😉 Bonus: Union Jack Black is a nice, rich deep black.
The Iconoclast Mega Volume Lacquer Mascara in Brilliant Black also goes on smooth and leaves eyelashes looking thicker and fuller. It has a curved brush that mimics the shape of your lashes so it’s like running a curved, mini fine-toothed comb through them. After you’re done, you just have luscious lashes – and there’s none of those unsightly clumps that you see with other mascaras.
The common feature among each of butter LONDON’s cosmetics is the smooth factor. The lip pencil, eye pencil, mascara – and even the nail polish(!) – all go on smooth. I’m totally impressed with this collection and will be snapping up additional products in the future!
