There was a time when I opted for trendy items over classic pieces. I mean, they were cheaper, fashionable (at the moment), and fun. As I get older, I’m appreciating classic wardrobe items more and more. Even though they can be a lot more expensive, it’s worth the investment, to me, if it’s something I plan to wear for a while.

If you follow What’s Haute, then you know I am a bag addict. So last Fall I decided to splurge on the ‘It’ bag of the moment, the Celine Luggage Tote. It’s a hugely popular bag right now, and one could argue that it’s ‘trendy’. But for me it’s a classic that I honestly see myself carrying for a long time. I chose the suede and leather version, in an olive and black color combo which works with pretty much everything in my wardrobe. I love the amazing construction of the bag, the special details like the large curved piping and smooth leather interior. It’s a great bag for both work and ‘play’ and it’s definitely a conversation piece – I get oohs and aahs and “where did you get that?” whenever I carry it!

It was a pricey purchase, but for me it was definitely worth the splurge. Sometimes it’s worth it to splurge on a timeless classic like a great handbag. Which items are you willing to spend big on and wear forever?
