Love to read and shop? Well according to WWD, H&M is combining those two passions in a new collection inspired by the Stieg Larsson bestseller, “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” Based on the main character, Lisbeth Salander, a 30-piece Dragon Tattoo collection was designed in collaboration with H&M by Trish Summerville, the costume designer for the upcoming film adaptation. The collection will be sold in 180 stores throughout the world, as well as online on Dec. 14, while the movie will be in theaters Dec. 21.
This is Summerville’s first time designing a full fashion line, though she’s previously designed concert outfits for celebrities like the Black Eyed Peas, No Doubt and Janet Jackson, to name a few. For the Dragon Tattoo collection, she drew upon Rooney Mara‘s ‘edgy film wardrobe.’
Summerville said: “We put a lot of aged-in washes and finishes, which goes along the lines of the Salander character. In the film, her clothes are quite extreme. They’re really worn down, they’re dirty. So for us, it was taking that kind of concept and giving it more of a realistic fashion feel.”
The collection includes edgy, rough-and-tumble pieces like washed black and deep burgundy leather jackets ($199), battered lace-up boots ($59.95), tribal-style earrings ($3.95), hoodies ($29.95), collectible T-shirts with Swedish proverbs from the film’s posters and hand-painted Swedish and American flags, platform wedges with covered studs along the back, and more. Each item will have a ‘worn-in look.’
What do you think of this book-inspired collection? Will you shop the Dragon Tattoo collection at H&M?
