What better way to deal with the cold than some hot beauty tips to rev up your make-up and skincare routine. Jason Ascher, Resident Artist for Barneys New York shared some great winter beauty trends with me, and I’m so excited to pass them on to you!
Want to winterize your skin? Jason recommends using a cream or oil-based cleanser. Banish your harsh foaming cleansers and scrubs and give cleansing oils a try. You may be hesitant, especially if you have oily skin, but Jason explains that cleansing oils break up and wash away in water. Your skin is left hydrated, clean, soft and supple. Harsh cleansers will strip, causing an overproduction of oil, which is very undesirable.

Once you’ve cleansed, you are ready to moisturize and winter is the perfect time to put away your oil-free products and grab something more emollient. Don’t neglect your body either; use a rich body cream in the winter. Jason recommends Marsha Mason‘s Resting in the River Healing Body Butter for intense moisture.
A great lip tip from Jason is to stick to lightly tinted, sheer stains and balms. The dyes in dark lipsticks will dry out your lips.
Jason mentioned the trend of smokey eyes ‘going oceanic’ with wonderful blue shades including teal, indigo and navy, like this L’oreal Bright Eye Shadow (in Showy blue). Pair with lips in deep garnet and muted brown-red. Or join the Mad Men obsession and stick to nude eyelids with harsh upper liner, strong mascara and classic red nails and lips. Jason’s tip: Got pearls?

I agree. Go for that classic touch, ladies!
Day-to-evening make-up is often a challenge when there is no time between your workday and your evening. Jason offers some great advice for making your face evening-ready in a pinch. Add a deep shadow to the outer corners of your lids and in the crease. Blend into your eye shadow and use a heavy liner just above and below. Jason’s word to the wise: Never line just below, it pulls the eye down. After refreshing your blush, try some shimmer at the top of your cheeks up toward your temples.
I thank Jason Ascher for these wonderful beauty tips and trends and can’t wait to learn more from him! It’s great having the advice of a beauty guru on the best way to winterize my beauty routine.
