Best face forward: Clinique Redness Solutions Instant Relief Mineral Powder

June 29, 2009 by Allison Croce · 1 Comment

Clinique Redness Solutions Instant Relief Mineral PowderI was really intrigued by Clinique’s new ‘Redness Solutions’ Instant Relief Mineral Powder. It is all-natural and mild, yet powerful enough to be used to combat redness from mild rosacea and break-outs.

When Saks Fifth Avenue had its latest Clinique bonus, I decided to give it a try. This powder is great! It comes with an anti-bacterial brush, and is very versatile. Can be worn over make-up, on bare skin, under make-up, however works for you. The powder is very light, goes on invisibly, and instantly diffuses redness. Skin feels cool, healthy, and clear.

With warmer weather approaching, women wear less make-up and Clinique Redness Solutions Instant Relief Mineral Powder offers wonderful results to cover those broken capillaries, red marks, splotches, or even a little too much sun. Feel more confident in your skin, give this powder a try! Order it online or visit your local Clinique counter for a free consultation.

Haute Topic: Kings and Queens of Pop (and Bling)

michael jackson style Kings and Queens of Pop and Bling shopping fashion

This week we’re paying homage to Michael Jackson - the man, the mystery, the music legend, humanitarian and fashion innovator and icon. Jackson’s unique sound and dance moves may have put him on the map, and his philanthropic efforts kept him there but it was really his fashion sense that really made him stand out and made us take notice. Early on he set trends with prepster looks (like his yellow cardigan and bowtie during the Human Nature era); colorful zippered leather jackets (a la Thriller), then later, sparkly socks and that single jeweled glove. Blinged out military-style jackets covered in sequins and crystals became his uniform alongside cropped black pants. Jackson’s style may have been a little over the top, especially for day to day, but designers and other celebrities paid attention and began to emulate his style. This season’s ever popular Balmain bandleader blazers were insipred by the King of Pop, and celebrities from Beyonce to Rihanna to Kim Kardashian to Victoria Beckham were all spotted wearing Jackson’s signature look. Want to rock Michael Jackson’s style? Click the links below to cop your own ‘Queen of Pop and Bling’ look.

Celebrating Michael Jackson - the music, humanitarian and fashion icon

June 27, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 3 Comments

michael-jackson on stageThe loss of Michael Jackson shook the world on Thursday. Michael Jackson the entertainer not only impacted the music world in tremendous ways, he was also a global humanitarian, lending his support to 39 charity organizations either with monetary donations through project sponsorships. He received recognition in the 2000 edition of the Guiness Book Of World Records for breaking the world record for the “Most Charities Supported By a Pop Star”. Despite media allegations, Michael Jackson loved all children, and took time out while touring to secret visting sick children and even had special roms at his Neverland Ranch for sick and terminally ill children.

The influence of Michael Jackson in the music and entertainment world is beyond measurable. Drawing initial inspiration from his idol James Brown, Jackson adopted his own style that is truly unmatched. From his trademark sound and innovative dance moves to mini-feature length music videos like the iconic Thriller, most of today’s singers acknowledge being inspired by him.

His inspiration extended to the fashion world as well. Jackson’s style first made us take notice in the eighties, when the innovative pop star dazzled the stage with red, multizippered leather jackets and  high-water pants, white socks and loafers, and then on to aviator sunglasses with militaristic, bandleader-style crystallized jackets, socks and that infamous sequined glove.

Recently, Michael Jackson-influenced fashion was making a comeback, as seen in Christophe Decarnin’s spangled bandleader jackets for Balmain, reminiscent of the jackets Jackson has worn in the past. His likeness was even seen in Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s collection on his Fall/Winter 2009-2010 runway. Celebrities like Kanye West, Rihanna and Beyonce were all seen sporting the King of Pop’s style. Recently Jackson was spotted out wearing Riccardo Tisci’s (Givenchy) studded jackets, and Tisci was set to create looks for Jackson’s upcoming “This Is It” tour that was set to begin in London on July 13. Swarovski crystals were also a favorite of Jackson’s, with the crystal studs covering almost every inch of his ostentatious collection of jackets and performance outfits. Jackson was also working with Swarovski to design his stage wardrobe for his tour. The sets and Jackson’s costumes would have featured 300,000 crystals in 43 sizes and 27 colors. Nadja Swarovski, the company’s vp of communications told WWD on Wednesday: “As the King of Pop, it is only natural for him to be crowned in crystal.”

Rest in peace Michael Jackson (1958-2009). You will certainly be missed but your influence in the realms of music, philanthropy and fashion will be everlasting.

Going gaga for green…nails? Chanel’s Jade polish is coming soon

June 25, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment

Chanel Jade green nail polishWe thought we’ve seen every nail color known to man (or woman) but Chanel recently anonounced that it’s going green this Fall. Not eco-friendly, but the actual color green. It’s releasing Peter Philips‘ (Creative Director of Chanel Makeup) Jade Green nail polish from its Fall 2009 collection as a limited-edition this October. If green nails sound horrid to you, don’t worry, it sounded that way to us too but once we saw the bottle we were sold! The highly coveted minty green shade will be joined by a Jade Rose shade as well (wonder what that will look like?) and we are anxiously awaiting the launch of both. Will you be adding chanel’s Jade to your polish collection this Fall?

No frills: Loeffler Randall’s Sybil flat

June 24, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment

Loeffler Randall Agatha black leather ballet flat Sybil ruffle flatWhile shoe shopping at Loehmann’s this afternoon, I came across the perfect flat - the Loeffler Randall ‘Agatha’, a soft black leather shoe with an awesomely chic studded bow on the side. It’s just the type of shoe I’ve been dying to find and I found it, in my size! I was ecstatic, until I discovered I could only find the left shoe - the right shoe had mysteriously disappeared.

So I did what any hard-working fashion editor would do - I kicked up and kicked off my heels at home and searched online to find my flat. And I found it at Revolve Clothing - only to discover it was SOLD OUT. Woe is me. But I did find a close second in my quest for the perfect black flat - the Loeffler Randall ‘Sybil’ flat.

The ‘Sybil’ flat is a basic, but beautiful black no-frills flat with the exception of a frilly leather ruffle down the front. Made of soft black Italian leather, the shoe has all of Loeffler Randall’s flirty-yet-downtown edge. Comfort is also a factor - there’s an adjustable ankle strap, cushion leather footbed and fexible leather sole but make sure you order up as it runs a half size small.

Now on sale for $245 (Was $375)

Nothing wrong with that, since diamonds are one of my very dear friends, but I never imaged I would see an edgy, rocker chic collection of jewelry at Zales. Enter Ed Hardy. The “One Dress” Angelina Jolie wants

June 19, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 4 Comments

One DressWhat would you do if you got a call from Angelina Jolie who wanted to puurchase one of your fabulous designs? Would you think it was a prank call? Well that’s exactly what happened to designer Malcolm Harris, of Mal Sirrah, Inc. (Sirrah is Mr. Harris’s last name spelled in reverse as well as his “alter ego”).

Page Six reports that he hung up on the actress/Goodwill ambassador not once, but twice, thinking it was a prankster. Turns out it was actually Jolie calling to buy three of his “One-Dress” for an upcoming event. (She convinced him after explaining they were both participating in World Refugee Day on Saturday.)

Sirrah says that his “One-Dress” was “collectively designed and created by over 1000 women from across the globe via online social networks such as Facebook, Myspace, ASmallWorld, Twitter, etc. Over the course of eighteen months women were asked to share information about their lifestyle, dreams and desires as relates to one simple - but truly important piece of clothing - the DRESS. By sharing their likes and dislikes in fabrics, colors, necklines, silhouettes, seasons, etc. the “One-Dress” was conceived, incubated and now released into the universe. ”
Mal Sirrah Malcolm Harris One Dress Angelina Jolie
The dazzlingly draped dress is made of 100% silk jersey and comes in black, cobalt blue, magenta and white and can be personally customized a variety of ways. The price is $225.

Sirrah follows in Jolie’s footsteps as a portion of all proceeds of the dress sales will go to the following organizations and charities: Womankind Worldwide and KIVA.org. Jolie bought the three knowing that some of the proceeds go to the UN’s refugee effort.

Sirrah is also a co-founder of the nonprofit organization Designers for Darfur. Co-chaired by model/heiress Lydia Hearst (Hearst Corporation), Designers for Darfur was founded in 2006 and raises funds and awareness for the Save Darfur Coalition, an organization devoted to supporting people in the war ravaged African country.
