80th Annual Academy Awards - Best Dressed on the Red Carpet

80th Annual Academy Awards - Best Dressed on the Red Carpet
Though this year’s Oscar red carpet parade may have been one of the least inspiring in recent history (it seems everyone got the text message about the one-shoulder and fire-engine red trends), we managed to nominate four stars who got it right:

~Diane Lane
Boy do we love chocolate; both the candy and the color. Diane is looking young and skinny - isn’t that the ultimate Hollywood request? The one shoulder makes an appearance, giving us lots of ‘Greek goddess’. We like the jewel detail on the hip too.

~Katherine Heigl
She managed to rock both of the night’s most annoying trends without totally irritating us. Nice work. That newlywed glow gives her a stunning confidence. She looks like a bona fide movie star.

~Jessica Alba
We love the way she incorporated the empire waist into appropriate maternity wear, and we’re wild about the eggplant color and the pulled back hair. It’s soft and romantic, yet still sexy. (Did she and Katherine have the same clutch?!)

~Ruby Dee
How can anyone not adore this woman? Her hair and makeup are flawless and the gown is sizzling, but in a very sexy grandma/age-appropriate sort of way. The topper is her look of complete gratitude unlike some of these starlets who look like we should only be so lucky that they even showed up…

Tory Burch ‘Briza’ Gladiator Sandal

September 24, 2008 by Donna Artz · Leave a Comment

Tory Burch 'Briza' Gladiator Sandal

As much as the fashion naysayers would like to imagine the gladiator trend as part of fashion history, it’s alive and well and coming in for resort 2008. Gladiators are here to stay. Tory Burch had the sense to put her emblem inside the shoe this time. This one is priced right and fabulous.

Women are still wearing sandals well into fall. The beauty of this one is the softened crackled leather with strategically placed studs for a clean classic line. Wear these with bubble shape dresses, a t-shirt dress with a boyfriend blazer, leggings and a long belted sweater, and of course, skinny jeans.

Beauty Review: Y.E.S. Anti-Aging Serum

September 24, 2008 by Allison Croce · 1 Comment

When choosing skincare, women of all ages are concerned with anti-aging products. Even young women in their early 20s are starting to incorporate anti-aging products into their face and body care routine. There are so many choices out there, it may seem confusing. It doesn’t have to be!

I have been using Y.E.S. (Young Essential Skincare) Anti-Aging Serum for about a month now, and I am very impressed. I think this serum would be a great step to add to just about any skin care regimen you are currently using.

Just a few drops of Y.E.S. Anti-Aging Serum daily yields noticeable results in less than a month. It is loaded with a special CP24-Complex that initiates a complete penetration of the skin, greatly increasing cellular proliferation within 24 hours. What this means is that within just a few weeks, you will notice changes in your skin tone and texture.

Almost instantly I noticed my skin was smoother, tighter, and more radiant. The serum absorbs into your face relatively quickly, leaving skin exceptionally soft. It is a pleasure using the serum each day, especially on my forehead, where I tend to have fine lines.

This serum is so versatile that it is perfect for women of any age, and with a wide range of skin concerns. Whether you are dealing with acne, scars, dullness, age spots, wrinkles, lines, or skin sensitivities, Y.E.S. is for you! It works instantly to boost collagen, smooth, brighten and tone the skin, and it is anti-bacterial and anti-microbial. Y.E.S. provides instant hydration and is perfect for replenishing sun-aged skin. Now would be the perfect time to give Y.E.S. the chance to help you see your skin’s full potential. Request your free sample and order here: http://yesskincare.com/anti-aging-serum.php.

Trend Report: Hot Beauty Trends for Fall/Winter 2008/2009

September 20, 2008 by Allison Croce · 2 Comments

As the fashion world buzzes with the excitement of Fashion Week, it is also the perfect time to rev up your make-up. Start by trying out one of the new beauty trends showing up in all the magazines and on the runway. As many big name department stores run their beauty bonuses at this time, pick one (or many) new looks as we say goodbye to summer and hello to fall.

One of the hottest beauty trends for Fall 2008/Winter 2009 is the smoky eye look. While best reserved for evening, the smoky eye is one look that looks good on everyone. The smoky eye is very dramatic, and may take some practice, but there are tons of great products out there to give you a helping hand. One great set to try for achieving the smoky eye look is the Black Eye Set Makeup Kit by Nars. This set gives you everything you need (including instructions!) to create this hot fall evening look. Smoky eyes are best paired with a neutral lip.

Another hot fall beauty trend brings us back to old Hollywood with the sultry red lip. Pack up all those glosses you were wearing this summer, and shop for a deep, matte shade that enhances your skin tone. Two popular, long wearing reds to try are Ruby Woo and Russian Red by M.A.C.. It’s best to let your lips take center stage when wearing red, so keep your eye makeup neutral.

Remember Brooke Shields‘ gorgeous full eyebrows? Well, big eyebrows are back! Whip out your eyebrow brushes, purchase a new eyebrow pencil, and put away your tweezers. The chiseled thin arches that were so popular are now giving way to fuller, thicker, darker eyebrows. A great, and affordable product to keep your brows looking their best is the Sephora Brand Eyebrow Palette 01. The set includes two shades of brow powder for shaping and filling in brows, as well as a brow wax to hold your brows in place after grooming.

It is always a fun time of year when new looks are revealed. As we pack up our summer bronzers and lip glosses and shop for new fall looks, remember it is also a great time to experiment! Visit your favorite cosmetics counter and have a make over. It’s a great way to get the newest look, and a great mood booster as well!

Jordi Scott Collection: “Infamous Revolution” Spring/Summer ‘09

September 20, 2008 by Seth Friedermann · Leave a Comment

Whenever there has been an aesthetic revolt against existing culture, fashion has always been out front. This does not happen because of any grand plans, it’s simply born out of a burning desire to be different mixed with anger and a rejection of what’s in. That fierce spirit was stamped all over Jordi Scott’s Spring/Summer ‘09 collection. The collection was equal parts N.Y ’70s punk & ’80s L.A Sunset Strip club glam. Iconic images of counter culture soldiers from the past mixed with sexy tailoring and bold fabrics. The collection flowed strongly from Jordi Scott and Starr Rinaldi’s, defiant attitude, but that didn’t stop the collection from being sexy. The show felt, and this is meant as a strong compliment, dirty. I felt I was as if I was watching something dangerous as the models strode towards me. Call it dirty glamour, these were the dirty boys and girls that deep down everybody envies. My favorite pieces were a white and black collared PVC jacket that was aggressive and beautiful, and an asymmetrical black and white tiered dress which invoked the ’80s but still had a modern feel. Let me state without hesitation that Jordi and Starr are going to be rock and roll favorites for a long time.

Haute or Not: Celebrity Headbands

September 20, 2008 by Ehmonie Hainey · 1 Comment

Celebrities are channeling their inner Wonder Woman with headbands tied around the forehead. Vanessa Simmons and Aubrey O’Day opted for thin styles, while Nicole Richie rocked a wider version, a silk and crystal braided Stacey Lapidus headband. Mary Kate Olsen drew stares with her Marc Jacobs runway-inspired ‘halo’ headband worn around her head. These new headbands are versatile. They can be worn with dresses, on the red carpet or dressed down with skinny jeans and a flowy, boho top. But are they a fad or here to stay? What’s your take on this trend: haute or not?

Kerastase Masque UV Defense Active Replenishing After-Sun Treatment for Sun-Exposed Hair

September 19, 2008 by Allison Croce · Leave a Comment

As we near the end of summer, many of us are experiencing the damaging effects of the sun on our hair. By mid-August, most women find that dry, lackluster hair has become all too common. Kerastase Paris is here to save the day with their luxurious Kerastase UV Defense Active Replenishing After-Sun Treatment Masque for Sun-Exposed Hair. I recently received this product to try, and I am thoroughly impressed with it!

What better time to try this masque then after a long day at the pool? After shampooing, I toweled off my hair and then generously slathered the aromatic gel masque into my hair. This masque is a great treat for your hair; it smells like a spa treatment, and has a great gel texture and silky feel to it. It was very easy to comb through, and after leaving it on for 5 minutes, my hair felt like butter upon rinsing. It gave my hair a much-needed refreshing, and with the photo defense filter and cationic derivative, it is designed to deeply replenish and strengthen sun-damaged hair. You will notice an almost immediate difference once your hair is dry. Hair is shinier, softer, and your style will get a much-needed, end-of-summer boost.

A few uses per week during the summer months will keep your hair at its absolute best; and you can be assured it is working to strengthen and moisturize the hair. While it is best to wear a hat or stay out of the sun, we all know that sometimes the most fun is just letting your hair down and running along the beach. So don’t fret ladies, Kerastase has got you (and your hair) covered!
