Haute Designer: Jordi Scott

June 25, 2008 by Seth Friedermann · Leave a Comment

The absolute hands down favorite part of my job is discovering new designers in my travels around New York City. A few weeks back in the Alphabet City section of NYC, I came across Jordi Scott’s wonderful, punky, and daring designs in Mark Montano Boutique. Her clothing ranges from wild tees to glamorous and sexy evening wear. Jordi worked for Betsey Johnson before launching her own line, but her fashion leans more towards that wonderful classic punk aesthetic. Scott and her business partner, Starr Rinaldi, have created a line of affordable boldness that cuts its own swath across the fashion landscape. The Jordi Scott girl is, as they proclaim, “infamous” but I also find her Fall/Winter 2009 work to be increasingly sophisticated while still holding on to that daring, signature edge. Scott’s designs are beautiful in the way the edge of a knife is beautiful. The racy, sexy, dangerous girl is Jordi’s muse and her clothing is both traffic stopping and affordable. If you like being the type of girl that both draws stares and causes scares; Jordi Scott is worth your attention.

Haute Shop: Marshall’s Shoe MegaShop

Spring and summer style is all about the accessories – bright bags, jazzy jewelry and oh-so-sexy shoes. A simple black dress or white tank and shorts is simply blah until you spice up the look with some haute footwear.

Whether you sport strappy sandals, fall for flip flops or stand tall in stilettos, Marshall’s Shoe MegaShop has got your fashionable feet covered.

Literally.

This season, their shoe selection is hotter than ever. Gladiator sandals have made a comeback and are gracing the racks at Marshall’s and the feet of women everywhere. Flip flops are just one of a girl’s essentials – pick up some plastics and bright colors for the beach, or leather / jeweled thongs for everyday. For basics, try a pair of ballerina flats, in multiple colors. Strappy sandals and chunky heels are necessary with flirty dresses and nights out – they add length to the leg, giving you sex appeal and plenty of style.

You can get in on the shoe game at Marshall’s. They’ve got a wide selection of designer shoes for every woman – hundreds to be exact – in a 5,00 square foot ’store within a store’. You can get everything from Versus by Versace stilettos to Chuck Taylor-style Coach sneakers. With something for everyone and unbelievable (and unbeatable!) prices, why not shop shoes at Marshall’s?

Nothin’ But a Good Time at Harrahs

It was the Facebook post that piqued my curiosity:

“If you’re:

a) On the East Coast somewhere
b) A fan of pop culture, entertainment, celebrity, etc.
c) Write about it
d) Know who Bret Michaels and Jackie Collins are

Then shoot me an email - I have something for you that you’re going to like.”

I know curiosity killed the cat, but Bret Michaels and Jackie Collins? I couldn’t pass that up. It turned out to be a blogger night hosted by Peter Shankman. Myself and several other bloggers were invited to spend the night at the luxurious new Waterfront Tower at Harrah’s hotel and casino in Atlantic City.

Upon arrival, my guest and I checked in (VIP, I might add) and went directly to our fabulous room with a view, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Hurriedly, we changed and met Peter and the bloggers for dinner at The Steakhouse restaurant. We dined on a 5-star meal consisting of common indulgences like king crab legs, steak and shrimp, along with specials from the chefs. Cocktails were flowing, and the company and conversation were cool.

After dinner, our group headed to The Pool for more VIP treatment. The Pool was a grotto-like nightclub surrounding (duh!) the hotel pool. Inside, palm trees, cabanas and scantily clad cocktail waitresses instantly transformed the hotel to an exotic destination in the Caribbean. While we sipped on more libations, a line formed across the other end of the pool to meet Bret Michaels. Uninterested in waiting in line, I snuck up on the side and managed to get a close-up shot of Bret, who looks even more ‘interesting’ in person.

Numerous drinks later, we were headed back to our room, comfortable bed calling my name. Because of a serious hangover, I never got to meet Jackie Collins but hanging with Peter Shankman, indulging in the finest food and drink, meeting the coolest group of bloggers and Bret Michaels at the Pool was well worth it.
